Sezane - Worth it? How to style this dress?

Shambles123 · 20/05/2026 08:37

Hi!

Is sezane worth the money?!

I am size 10 - inverted triangle shape with boobs if that makes any difference.

For garden party type event how would people style this dress?!

TIA!

It's lovely and I don't think it makes the model look broad at all!

I wish they did different lengths though - I'm 5'3" and I think the length and proportions would be all wrong for me.

CortieTat · 21/05/2026 13:32

I have had quite a few things from Sézane over the years, the quality is hit and miss. Definitely better than H&M but for the price it’s possible to find something made really well (usually on sale though). I sold most of my Sézane items and only kept a few staples. There’s a lot of marketing hype around the brand and usually once your parcel arrives the content is underwhelming compared to the image presented on SM. I prefer it the other way round.

Plasticdreams · 21/05/2026 15:09

Sezane use more natural fabrics like cotton, wool, silk, cashmere etc, but still the craftsmanship isn't great. Then you have other brands where the craftsmanship is much better but the style isn't there.

Alateone · 21/05/2026 19:36

I think that’s a super reasonable price for sezane!

I have one dress from sezanne. 3 years old and I love it. Every single time i have worn it, I have received multiple compliments

Justthistime1234 · 21/05/2026 20:01

@Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice re the shop - I get what you mean. I go up to Marylebone H Street every couple of months and the whole place is slightly forbidding even if the shops are fantastic - it has everything and very beautiful but I don’t know where to start. Sezane has a ridiculous velvet rope where you queue around the block to get in. It’s very annoying but moves fast. Inside is quite small relative to the range and I’d say 60-70% of my wish list is never there. I take a screenshot of it (the reception in there isn’t good), show an assistant and they get whatever they do have. They’re always super friendly and I’m middle-aged too! The queue for the changing rooms can be interminable but there’s not much point going otherwise - also trying it on makes a huge difference; their sizes and shapes are all over the place. I find ordering and returning online much easier overall. Wow that was long! Clearly I’ve been thinking about this! But definitely worth a visit.

Thanks, glad to hear they're friendly but queuing along a velvet rope is giving me 90s nightclub vibes and I don't think I can be bothered Grin

It's a lovely dress, but I see that it's unlined. I would be a bit worried about it being see-through especially for a garden party out in the sunshine.

For styling, I would either go with very neutral block heel, or a soft green.

That's why slips were invented.

This is Sezane. It won’t be see through

What?? What’s her age got to do with anything? A slip is a legitimate alternative to wearing a see-through dress and it helps the dress hang better. I’m 58; is that a problem?

Yes I’m not surprised.

for most under 50…. A slip is not something we wear 🤷‍♀️

2 of the things that amaze me on MN is the obsession about cleaning and not knowing that unlined dresses hang better and look better with a slip. Although that actually gets discussed on here regularly yet still seems to pass posters by.

M & S have a large selection of waist and full slips in all lengths.

Slips get discussed on here regularly and posters of all ages recommend them. Unlined dresses fit and hang and move when you're wearing them far better with a slip. But up to you.

Floisme · 22/05/2026 09:22

Refusing to wear a slip, which would almost certainly improve how the dress looked, because you associate it with women over 50....... Probably not the silliest thing I'll see on S&B today but possibly the silliest thing I'll see before 9.30am.

That said - and admittedly I don't wear dresses very often - I wouldn't spend £165 on a cotton dress if it was see through. I'd want either a sturdier fabric or a (cotton) lining.

mcmuffin22 · 22/05/2026 10:18

I would expect lined for that process too. I have dresses for much cheaper than that which have a cotton lining. I also had an almost identical dress in the late 90s from River Island.

Manchegomango · 22/05/2026 10:31

I got a dress from primark for a tenner that's lined

watchingthishtread · 22/05/2026 11:55

50% linen, 45% cotton - that sounds like really nice fabric.

Hassell · 22/05/2026 13:12

I think fact that shops like Zara, Mango, Primark etc didn’t even stock slips would indicate that perhaps they are an item that is not used widely amongst those not over, say 40.

I am 45 and don’t own a slip. Guess i would go to Marks and Spencers if I needed one! Couldnt think where else!

Shambles123 · 22/05/2026 15:24

Ive decided that it is no coincidence they've gone barefoot in their picture. Looks like a difficult shoe match.

I have ordered some Nobody's Child dresses to try on instead...

What’s your body shape?

Shambles123 · 22/05/2026 15:38

Inverted triangle - size 10, biggish boobs, broad shoulders, most belly I've had since uni chub as the menopause approaches (excluding pregnancies ofc!) but not massive concern yet.
