Inspiration on different clothes brands to try please! Re-building my wardrobe

Looking for some mumsnet hive mind inspiration and guidance to re-build my wardrobe as I get near my goal weight.

I've gone from a size 20-22 to a 14 over the last 18 months (WLI, gym and a diet overhaul) and wont be getting too much smaller.

What brands could I now try out via vinted that I couldn't buy when plus size?

I like good quality natural fabrics and well cut garments. I'm struggling with the plethora of wide legged, oversize and relaxed fit everything. The style doesn't suit me at all. I'm an Hourglass figure, with short torso and long legs.

My historic style has been somewhere between bohemian, rocker and Y2K nostalgia. Fave colours Navy, Teal, blush pink, burgundy, mustard, chartreuse. Monochrome and greige is not for me. Early 40s, no kids, very occasionally need professional corporate wear.

Brands I'm already buying on vinted include Jaeger, Seasalt (not the patterns), Poetry, Wrap, Boden, Next for Jeans. Baukjen. Hobbs for office wear. The odd piece from fatface and white stuff.

Is Sezanne worth the money fabric wise? TOAST? The Fold for workwear? Is Jigsaw decent quality?

I've been unimpressed at the fabric quality so far from Whistles and Reiss. If I'm buying man made fibres I'd rather buy new from sainsburys!

Sezanne, yes. Aligne. Me+Em (sale).

Brandalley is useful.

With Nothing Underneath have some lovely clothes, very nice fabrics. Sézane is also nice. Linen and lyocell/ tencel from Zara. I’d also look at Massimo Dutti. Well done on your weight loss!

I wanted to add, I’m a bit obsessed with fabrics (and also losing weight!) and most places have a small selection of either pima cotton, linen, lyocell, modal or tencel, it’s just a matter of finding it. I just bought my little DS a pair of lyocell trousers - which I was really surprised to find at H&M of all places. OYSHO also has a nice selection of basics in modal mixes.

Fantastic thank you for the suggestions. I will be investigating all the new brands. I have an innate fear of Zara and have it in my head that its fast fashion and the sizing is all over the place like H & M. will try to get over my historic prejudice!

I’ve discovered Jigsaw. Not cheap new but decent prices on vinted.

@SybilEsmeGytha Zara is a bit intimidating because there is just so much choice! But I’ve gone from a 26 to an 18 (still going) and I’ve bought a few XL pieces recently which have consistently fit fine. Massimo Dutti is owned by the same group as Zara but a bit more high end. Good luck! ☺️

I just bought something in Cos which is beautiful. Their very plain, structured style might have some items that would suit you. It’s expensive but not insanely so.

For the colours (muted) and the natural fabrics, I like Lily and Me. I'm not a fan of most of their prints, but I don't like prints much. The plain, soft colours are lovely.

Me too re Zara! Good call from @user593 , I agree WNU should be on your list.

Similar story to me and Cos is my Vinted obsession. Also look at Arket. I have me+em, jigsaw, jaegar items too.

SybilEsmeGytha · 20/05/2026 21:31

@GrimDamnFanjo thanks for the recommendation for COS. Are you able to share any tips regarding sizing? I know it's part of the h&m group but at a very different price/value/ quality point.
I would normally size up slightly for H&M and am still wearing size 16 for a tailored jacket and trousers I have from there.

Its all a bit strange with COS - many of the clothes are oversized - I have my measurements and then read about the fit in the descriptions of the garments. They are a hard brand to buy from with confidence!
