Hypoallergenic earrings

DD 11 had her ears pierced earlier this year. We’ve discovered she cannot tolerate cheap earrings and we will need to stick to hypoallergenic.

can anyone please recommend some earring brands that won’t cost the earth - particularly in gold tone. I think she will need to stick to gold plated titanium or gold plated silver, as we can’t afford solid gold and need to avoid gold plated brass. The styles she likes are cute / fashionable studs or small hoops. We’ve looked at solace, which we saw recommended on here previously but don’t like the styles.

I can't wear cheap earrings either so I either wear sterling silver - Heather Needham or next does some or look at old English jewelers on e bay who does gold plated silver.

The only earrings that I can tolerate are Solace. I’ve literally tried hundreds of brands and materials and solace are the only ones that don’t make my ears infected and itchy.

My daughter and I also struggle with this and have found the sterling silver range at Next really good. No reactions and lots of cute studs, etc. About £8 for a pair.

Absolutely not silver - they go black and tarnish. Gold is the only answer. Doesn’t tarnish and lasts forever. I had exactly the same problem and thought silver and hypoallergenic would work. They simply inflamed my ears and I could feel the inflammation after around 2 days. Gold earrings can be bought cheaply second hand. You could try gold plated. I haven’t but they could work. Often they are gold plated on brass.

This is the same for me too. The Solace studs still irritated my ears, but since ive switched to a very small pair of their hoops, ive worn earrings every day for the first time in about 10years. They were not really pricey either.

Edit to add, I wear the titanium range i think? Which is supposed to be the same stuff they make hip / knee joints out of so noone should react!

I buy from Big Metal London, who are nickel free and don’t get allergic. I buy big epoxy resin hoops but I think they do smaller ones as well.

I have the same issues and wore earrings from Solace for many years but was unhappy with the silver colour being more like steel. I learnt how to make silver jewellery and now make my own sterling silver earrings and can wear these with no problems. I don’t wear any shop bought sterling silver earrings as sometimes they have been coated with an anti tarnish coating which irritates my ears. It’s very frustrating. I have recently been learning how to plate my silver earrings with gold and so far haven’t had any issues wearing these either. So I would try handmade silver earrings rather than mass produced.

shes fine with the piercing jewellery from Astrid and miyu, which is titanium. I guess I’m just going to have to go back there and fork out for the pricier stuff and keep my fingers crossed she grows out of it.

I’m the same, very sensitive to most metals.
The only thing I can tolerate is titanium (not plated with anything just titanium) or 18ct gold. I have some gold coloured titanium balls, don’t look quite like real gold but much cheaper than buying 18ct everything!

You could try surgical steel too, it was ok for me for a little while but then I started reacting to it- but others with metal allergies say they’re fine with it.

Have a look on Solace jewellery for some affordable items

Ceramic earrings as retainers. I have black tiny hearts and I think they look very cool. Look up ! Really good for sensitive ears

My daughter really struggles with anything other than titanium. Even the ones that claim to be hypoallergenic make her ears dry and flaky if they’re stainless steel. These were about £15 on Amazon and have been the best earrings she’s ever had. Absolute bargain too! I was very dubious but honestly they’ve been great.

These are another pair of Amazon titanium ones which she has and are also excellent. A bit pricier at £15 for one pair but still a bargain.

@thinkfast I haven’t grown out of it! I’m 70. My ears were pierced 45 years ago. If they irritate, they do!
