I’ve booked a session with a view to doing a course of 4
The clinic looks professional but I’d love to hear feedback from anyone.
Late 50s, ok but a bit wrinkly with a few red patches
What should I expect please?

What device are they using to do the needling? The therapist should be able to tell you what sensation to expect during and after treatment as they should have had it done themselves during training.
Will they be applying any products after needling?

HappyNooYear · 15/05/2026 20:18

Put on Emla cream before the appointment! Numbs the skin. No need to feel the needling

Losingthefaith · 15/05/2026 20:29

Your skin will feel warm after the appointment, I always suggest a clean (preferably silk) pillowcase after micro needling.
If you're not already using retinol, suggest introducing it into your skin regime as it works beautifully with micro needling, as promotes collagen production.
The results of micro needling aren't immediate as it can take months, even up to a year for collagen to remodel.
You want to see a progressive, rather than aggressive approach.
Check what device is being used, if doctor pen, run a mile. You want to ensure that the clinic and therapist are insured and appropriately trained.

floppybit · 15/05/2026 21:30

What is Dr pen @Losingthefaith? Can you recommend a good divorce to look out for?

floppybit · 15/05/2026 21:31

A good device, not a divorce!

blueshoes · 15/05/2026 21:40

How many millimeters deep does the microneedling go?

Apparently it should not go deeper than 1 mm because otherwise you could end up looking older because it starts to melt the fats in the deeper layers and you end up losing even more volume on your face.

Gonnaeatalotofpeaches · 15/05/2026 21:44

@floppybit Skin pen is one of the market leaders. If you are looking at combing with radio frequency then Morpheus 8 is good.

NotAWurstToIt · 15/05/2026 21:47

If you get on with micro needling I’d recommend radio frequency micro needling which gives more instant results and can definitely help with skin tone, smoothness, lines, wrinkles and sagging.

Gonnaeatalotofpeaches · 15/05/2026 21:47

@blueshoes I think you are thinking of if combing with radio frequency. But yes in theory small controlled wounds are better than the older techniques of “bleed to succeed”. If working on a scar the therapist may go deeper than 1mm. You basically want to stimulate the dermis into producing more collagen by making it think their is an injury whilst causing as little trauma as possible.

Theyneverknow · 15/05/2026 22:06

SkinPen, DermaPen, Raffine, Exceed are all good devices.

Losingthefaith · 15/05/2026 23:00

Dr Pen is a cheap device off Amazon. Skin pen is a good device, although there are many other clinical brands such as derma pen which are good.
Do some research on where you plan to be micro needles. Ideally you want a level 4 trained practitioner, which means they'll have a good level of training, rather than a weekend.

ChoralCarol · 16/05/2026 12:20

Thank you for the replies
tpThe website site doesn’t say what the device is but the products are Derma if that means anything
Interesting about the using Retinol with it, I presumed I’d have to stop a few days before as I did with IPL

@ChoralCarol Let us know how it went!

ChoralCarol · 24/05/2026 16:45

Reporting back on my first appointment

After taking a full history the therapist suggested that the depth of the needles would be shallow to see if my skin would tolerate it. I was offered numbing cream but decided against.

My face was cleaned and then some gel was applied and a pen with several tiny needles was run over my skin. It really didn’t hurt, although is quite a strange feeling.
After care, was advised to avoid the sun, makeup and excessive heat for 24 hours. For the rest of the day my face was quite pink as if I’d been out in the sun and wind but by the following morning it has settled down.

5 days later my dry patches have gone and I’m back to normal, it’ll take a fortnight to develop the glow most likely.
Ive been recommended a course of four monthly treatments.

Excellent, sounds like you've a good therapist. You'll definitely have some excellent results after four monthly treatments.

Glad it went well! I think i might just bite the bullet too…
