White dress for size 12-14

Have an event abroad where we have all been asked to wear white. It will be super hot. Love this and it’s in the sale - just struggling to picture if it will make me look like a big fat square or not? Size 12-14, 5ft 8. Average medium build? I just feel like the way it’s been styled on the model has made it really hard for me to picture?.

(I leave in 10 days and the dress I was going to wear I can’t find anywhere! Alternative suggestions welcome)

I think she means it is a dress designed for an less womanly shape.

Women tend to look better with bust, waist or hips defined - doesn't really matter which, and no, need not be the waist - except for a generally floaty overall feel, which this isn't.

It is designed for a body type like the model who is extremely thin and is also reminiscent of styles chosen for very small girls who are yet to develop a female shape.

The reason it works on Twiggy types is their figure were not as classically feminine as a size 12-14 woman.

Both body types can look lovely, but they call for different styles.

Each to their own but I think that's a very restrictive and limited way of dressing. I think women tend to look better if they're wearing interesting, well designed clothes.

Yes, I do agree with that.

Truthfully though, I'm just not honestly sure that IS a well-designed dress, at least it isn't designed to work for a grown woman with anything other than the very slight figure the model has. 12-14 is a very nice size, but it isn't waif-like.

It sticks out like a toddler dress and hangs from the shoulder like a billboard so that the "cuteness" comes from the little stick-like arms and legs peeping out from beneath by way of aesthetic contrast. There really is no clever shaping.

I didn't want to say anything earlier but I just don't like the dress in the OP"s first post. It is too shapeless to be stylish.

There are lots of designs that can be manipulated by styling or choice of model to photograph well but which simply don't work IRL for most people.

I suspect this is one of them - and the reductions on multiple websites suggest they haven't flown out the door when people tried them on.

But ultimately OP the litmus will be in ordering one and trying it on. We can only answer your question from what we suspect looking at a photo and if you are still drawn to it, maybe just give it a whirl.

I just went for it and ordered the original in the end - I really like it and hope that it won’t swamp me as much as it does the model which is what I didn’t want. I’m not big busted so not worried about it sticking out weirdly.

I have also ordered this for good measure

Didn’t say it outright but it was obvious 😂 but it’s fine the one you liked wasn’t my style we obviously just differ
