Foundation help ?

I'm white, not pale nor am I tanned, I have red patches on my face.

How do I find a foundation that covers all?

I feel I've tried so many tinted moisturizers and such and I don't want to spend £20/30 on something that never seems to be a colour match like websites promise.

I can't use open ones in shops to check. I could use a new one but there is never any ofc 😂

I don't understand undertones or anything like that.

I do have lines and puffy skin. I'm 35.

I'd like my skin to look less patchy is my only goal.

What is it I'm looking for and how do I find it?

Can upload a picture but I'd rather see replies first.

Boots No7 Beautifully Matte. Full coverage. They do Ivory and Porcelain shades. It will cover any imperfections.

If you go to a big Boots or department store they will colour match you at a counter, then you can ask for a sample to try at home before buying.

I’d go to your biggest local John Lewis or large Boots with makeup counters and go round as many as you like getting samples to try at home before buying.

You could always order online once you know if one is right if you don’t want to make two trips.

Thank you both, I've 2 boots near me and none of them have the people who help you any more. I did get brave enough to go see with a friend. 😂

I think my skin is not ivory or porcelain because of the red patches, maybe slightly darker than that

Mac studio fix fluid. It's the only one that covers my redness properly.

Try Erborisn CC red correct. It will hide imperfections and red patches.

I’d look for=
Neutral undertones first
Light to medium buildable coverage
Satin or natural finish (not overly matte)
Ingredients like niacinamide/centella if your skin gets red easily
Hydrating formulas since lines &puffiness can look worse with dry matte makeup

Don’t stress too much about fancy undertone charts. Try natural daylight near your jawline.

I love the Dior skin glow foundation, it is expensive but if you buy it from their website they send you a sample to try before you open the bottle in case you want to change it.
it is the only one I rebuy when I run out, it is light and easy to blend but you can build it up in areas that need more coverage.

do you have one that is a good colour match even if you don’t like the product? You can use this to find out what colour you would be in different brands.

if you want a cheaper one, this maybelline one is very similar to the dior one, I was surprised how much I liked it but I got one which is too pale so saving it for winter when I am not using fake tan.

I took a picture in good light and got chatgpt to recommend me a match in a couple of foundations. I bought one based on its recommendation and I'm happy with it.

Vinomonster · Yesterday 20:18

I’d recommend a green colour corrector (concealer stick thing) with no 7 hydraluminous foundation.
Warm ivory is a good place to start the investigations (don’t be put off by the word ivory - it’s not that pale).

There’s almost always a no 7 offer to be found.

I have red patches too and this works for me.

Good luck.

Revlon Colourstay is fantastic, apply with a buffer brush. Put some on the back of your hand ,swirl the brush round until all the product is on the brush and then apply to your face.

Thank you all for the replies

What would you say is a good natural light? Am I being daft thinking I'd just stand in the garden?

Or does this mean a room with daylight and no overhead lights?

I stood in my garden for good lighting, just waited until it was clear, not too sunny (or pissing down as it has been).

Find a good base before the foundation. No. 7 primers are good. They do a green one to balance red tones. Maybe a mineral powder foundation over that.
