What should I wear to London this weekend?

Pureclass · 13/05/2026 20:47

Coming to London from NI this coming weekend (Sat - Mon).

Will be Ryanair hand luggage only so really limited.

Live in NI and atm its flitting between absolutely freezing and jumper/tshirt weather.

Going to Chelsea/Belgravia to see the on street floral displays and to 1 show. Shopping, some nice food and a bit of wandering about.

Had hopes for nice dresses but think it's possibly a bit too cold?

Atm planning to bring

Slightly mad trousers, tshirt, long denim shacket

Jeans, vest, shirt

Jeans, tshirt/jumper, denim shacket

Trench coat.

Trainers.

Too hot/too cold? Thoughts?

i would avoid the wide leg trousers as others have said looks wet this weekend and with the state of the pavements they will suck up the water
like mad. Layers definitely your friend. Yesterday I was so cold (inside) I had to put on a long sleeve vest underneath a cashmere jumper and had my electric
Granny blanket on on the sofa

Pureclass · 14/05/2026 08:33

Trousers are actually temu (boo hiss)
I had originally seen them on an online boutique for £150 and had them in and out of my basket for months and months. I was about to finally buy them.

Then did a reverse image search to see if I could get them slightly cheaper and they came up as temu for £8.99, so I bought them. Not usually where i shop but I was in love. They are an ok length with trainers so shouldn't sop up too much water (again very used to it here)

Had high hopes for slightly better weather being futher south but will pack more like what I wear here. Yesterday I had the heating on and a fleece and a thermal. Just planning to be slightly more stylish as its nice to dress up for a weekend away

Thanks for all the help

Cold here, for May. I had to put the heating on for an hour last night. Lots of rain and hail yesterday, interspersed with bright blue skies.

Drivingmissrangey · 14/05/2026 10:52

I’m really regretting packing my winter coats away. I turned my heating back on yesterday (wfh and wearing a wool jumper) and at one point mid morning when I popped outside I could see my breath.

Layers are your friend OP. And a waterproof/decent brolly.

Don’t worry all set to change next week. Just rubbish at the moment. Although it’s currently sunny!

MsAlignment · 14/05/2026 11:45

I keep looking at my heaviest winter coat …

(Though I know, at this time of year, whatever the weather looks like it would be too hot after about five minutes.)

VividDeer · 14/05/2026 11:51

I'm going to chelsea flower show next week. Don't think ill be wearing the dress I was saving!

user464632168 · 14/05/2026 16:29

We just had another round of hail

Dratthebest · 14/05/2026 16:36

Whatever you wear you will either be too hot or too cold.

(Sorry, not helpful)

I know I had bought 2 new dresses thinking id have a nice opportunity to wear them. We are going flower show adjacent.

I will more than likely be cold as thats how I run (bar the tube) - but I have a huge canvas bag i can stow layers in.

I just had such high hopes for a somewhat warmish weekend with guaranteed weather, and its hail and wet.
Ah well a weekend like id have at home anyway.

It's strange because the next weekend is half term - which is usually when bad weather breaks out as soon as they're off school! But that's set to be really warm. Typical if you've booked to go earlier its done the opposite!

Poppingby · 15/05/2026 09:37

Riot vest? Check out the route of the fascist Tommy Robinson march and avoid it. Think it starts at 3pm around Holborn.

redboxerclub · 16/05/2026 08:06

What are you wearing OP? Have a lovely time

Kitt1 · 16/05/2026 08:58

@Pureclass Love your denim shirt/coat. Where did you get it please?

PhaedraTwo · 16/05/2026 09:12

Pureclass · 14/05/2026 05:40

Below are the mad trousers and the denim shirt

Thanks all!

I think ill bring these, jeans, maybe a silk shirt, a tshirt, a cashmere / knit jumper and my trench coat.

Plus thermal/layers

Im a bit limited in coats/jackets atm - everything else is too heavy or too light.

Will bring cashmere wrist warmers and probably a baseball hat rather than an umbrella.

What you've listed sounds fine. Ignore the advice about binning the dress , dress, opaque tights, and layers is fine (I'm in Belfast this weekend and wearing that)

MsAlignment · 16/05/2026 10:10

(Slight derail - this is your Belfast weekend, @PhaedraTwo? Exciting! Hope you’ll give a full report afterwards.)

It is. What a lovely city Belfast is Gorgeous, imposing Victorian architecture and so clean.

MsAlignment · 16/05/2026 11:19

I’m sure!

But Guidi have a beaten up looking Mary Jane shoe that needs trying on. And there’s the Harnden aspect …

I looked on in awe at a Paul Harden jacket - fortunately it was too small.

Pureclass · 19/05/2026 00:02

Just back and had an amazing time!
In the end I had enough room to pack the dress and was glad I did as it turned out to be a bit warmer than expected.

So I wore it yesterday.

Sunday was cooler, so that was jeans, a black tshirt saying "yes sir I can boogie" in green. Green adidas. The denim dress - from Whistles @Kitt1
And the trench

Today was a Guinness tshirt (hey im Irish) and a class velvet kimono I bought in Camden market.

We had 1 empty small case for purchases - which between the 3 of us we completely filled

I bought a leather and suede handbag with a leopard print flap

Linen striped dungarees

A pair of unliqo denim culloden

Unliqo knitted green polo t shirt

The above kimono

Jo loves perfume

Leopard print Dr Martyn shoes in TK maxx - omg the tk maxx there is 900% better than the ones here

An orange cos vest top

Dior addict lipstick in pink

Thank god we were only there for 3 days, my bank balance couldnt have taken anymore.

Thanks for all the advice

Phareda Two I hope you enjoyed Belfast - its a very friendly city, I hope you got that impression

Ohhh and the protest - arrived just in time for it to be coming right by our hotel. Couldn't get to the nearest tube and had to walk along side it while furiously hoping we didn't get shot by any media who might think we were part of it.

There were some "lovely" folk on our flight over on their way to attend....arseholes.

So we escaped the madness and went to Camden as we weren't sure which areas would be affected.

Very friendly.

There are so many stunningly grandiose Victorian buildings. And such a clean city no litter. The Titanic Exhibition is well worth seeing and we were very impressed with the Museum of Ulster. This exhibition is fabulous. We really enjoyed it.

MsAlignment · 19/05/2026 10:20

Glad to hear you each had an excellent trip!

Thank you for that exhibition link. I’m not usually keen to see even the most beautiful clothes static in a museum, but that definitely looks worth seeing. Maybe it will finally get me to Belfast. (For Envoy!)

Pureclass · 19/05/2026 11:18

Im going to the fashion exhibition soon. Glad it is worth while.
Glad you had a good time here!
Its a great city MsAllignment and beautiful coastlines if you have a bit of time to travel (nothing is really more than an hour/90 mins away from the city)
