Long lasting normal nail polish

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a non uv nail polish that’s long lasting for a 2 week holiday, preferably tried and tested. I tried Essie gel couture on a recent holiday and it didn’t last well at all.

I find Nailberry lasts pretty well.

ToadRage · 12/05/2026 15:41

I find my nail colour can last much longer just by using a top coat, have you tried that? The only thing that really lasted was gel but that was a bitch to remove.

SheilaFentiman · 12/05/2026 15:52

OPI and Sally Hansen work well for me but I wouldn't expect any polish to last 2 weeks.

saveforthat · 12/05/2026 15:56

I find essie are usually very good and Nails inc also good. I do base coat, 2 colour coats, then top coat.

SoScarletItWas · 12/05/2026 15:58

Oh, I was going to recommend Essie Gel Couture as I get two weeks out of it with base coat, two layers of colour, and top coat.

But I don’t think I’d expect any polish to stand up so well to lots of sun cream, swimming pools etc.

remotecontrolme · 12/05/2026 16:00

Two weeks?! Lol. No chance.
I'm grateful if any polish lasts two full days and don't find any brand lasts any better than another

A good base coat and top coat. I'm back to polish for a bit after acrylics and use Rimmel nail nurse base coat, 2 coats of colour (Sally Hansen) and top coat: Sally Hansen instadry in the red bottle. Its a watery top coat that dries quickly and shiny, even over not yet dry polish. I love it, makes manicure day so quick.

PancakeClock · 12/05/2026 16:08

You’ll never get it to last two weeks. I take a couple of colours, base and top coat with me plus some of the pre-soaked remover pads (they come in a really small tub) and redo them while I’m away. Even with a good top coat I don’t get more than 4 days before it starts to chip, normally.

Tortephant · 12/05/2026 16:08

Nailberry is the best I have found

Pandasarethebest · 12/05/2026 16:09

Last year I used stick on glaize ones. No uv. But they were perfect. And peeled them off when I got home.

That's interesting as I use Essie and do exactly the same procedure as you yet mine starts coming off the very next day.

Hotmess54 · 12/05/2026 17:29

Use nail wraps! They last perfectly for at least two weeks and are super easy to change too

fizzyroselemonade · 12/05/2026 17:31

I find most polishes much of a muchness but the thing that makes a difference for me is seche vite top coat. Still don’t think I’d get a full two weeks out of it though

saveforthat · 12/05/2026 17:51

It does make a difference what you are doing with your nails on holiday. If you trail your fingers through the sand it will rub off. Don't open cans etc, get someone else to do it. Sometimes the only reason I need to remove my nail varnish is because my nails have grown and there is a gap at the bottom.

Same, it’s a game changer for doing my nails.
I manage about a week with maybe an odd little chip but I do no nail prep and am not careful with my hands either.
If I’m away for a couple of weeks I just take stuff with me to redo (only takes ten minutes with the seche vite but I still rarely bother redoing 😂).
I do get a gel pedicure though, so hardy and lasts forever plus I hate feet so if mine are going to be out they at least need to look pretty!

Is there a brand you would recommend? Would like to try these

Cyclingmummy1 · 12/05/2026 20:31

The longest lasting polish I have is Avon. I think it's called gel shine.

Hotmess54 · 12/05/2026 20:32

I’ve used moyou and holy grail nail, and they are very similar. I prefer the UV because they have a high gloss finish

Littleguggi · 12/05/2026 22:50

Nailberry or Opi, 5 days max

Giftpawslab · 13/05/2026 00:52

Polishey. If you do it right it lasts for ages

PinkNailPolish2026 · 14/05/2026 16:26

Thanks so much for all the replies, apologies for the late response, our internet was unstable for a few days. I’ve ordered some Nailberry and nail wraps to try. It’s for my toes, I hate having gel on them. I’ve also ordered some top coat so hopefully that’ll make a difference.

Hi, check the formula type & prep. I’d look for polishes with stronger film-forming resins & pair them with a really good base/top coat. Thin layers usually last much longer than thick ones. Also cap the edges of the nails every layer.

EmeraldRoulette · 14/05/2026 19:28

@1emma19 how do you check that though please?
