White Skechers. Frumpy or Essential??

Purplephase · 11/05/2026 13:57

I’m mid 50s, short, size 10. Not fussed about what is currently trendy, but do try to make a little bit of an effort. I tend to live in Baukjen, Uniqlo at the mo.

i have v little idea of what to wear shoe wise, but tend to wear trainers or walking boots a lot as I value comfortable feet. I have a pair of white Skechers. How are they considered these days? A wardrobe staple, or a fashion faux pas for middle aged women?? 🤔

Also mid 50s, short and size 10 (sometimes 8 from the waist up), also use Baukjen and Uniqlo a lot. I loved the chunky trainer trend because it meant I could look casual and still increase my height a little. Mostly been wearing Tommy Hillfiger white platform trainers which are probably really dated now. I think Skechers and fashion are not two words that go together like ramalamadingdong, but I know how comfy they are!

ToadRage · 11/05/2026 14:19

I personally do not like white trainers, I have pink ones and navy blue ones and black ones, all skechers.

BananaPeels · 11/05/2026 14:21

I had no idea they could be a fashion faux pas. I have loads of sketchers, as does my teenage daughter. They are super comfortable.

I feel like white chunky trainers do have abit of a middle aged vibe about them TBH. Probably because they are so ubiquitous!
Im a comfy shoe fan but not a trainer person personally. For me its DMs in winter and Converse in summer!

Same here. I do have some white trainers but they are Converse Weapons and I don't wear them with dresses or skirts as I got sick of the look. So I would say it depends how they are worn.
I once had some excellent Skechers but they were grey leather with pink accents.

I live in mine. I have dodgy feet so I do not care what anyone else thinks.. I’m comfortable! I find the white goes with anything and lifts a drab outfit. Obviously they are not for a night out but otherwise they fit most scenarios. Had mine for two years now and still in good nick

MyFavouritePlace · 11/05/2026 17:19

I don't think they're fashionable but they are very comfortable and I have 3 pairs (I'm late 50s). I keep eyeing up Gucci trainers but my DD keeps telling me not to be so ridiculous 😂 maybe next year when I turn 60!

Greenknightsuccess · 11/05/2026 17:24

I love my white Skechers slip ins. And my black ones. I like to look good, and I know they’re not up to par fashion-wise, but they are so comfy!

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 11/05/2026 17:26

I've gone off white at the moment - they were feeling a bit dated. I've got a few different coloured trainers on the go - maroon, green, black and white, tan.

White Adidas or Onitsuka Tigers with a coloured stripe might be a more interesting and on trend alternative.

SpottyAlpaca · 11/05/2026 17:28

I buy Skechers ‘Go Walk’ shoes & use them every day for their intended purpose. Colour & fashion considerations are entirely irrelevant. They are excellent, and I would definitely recommend.

Kitt1 · 11/05/2026 17:31

Yes, they’re fine if you like wearing them, and really, that’s all that matters.

I prefer to have my own look and always have done since being a teenager. I have some white Skechers with graffiti on that I love but I mostly wear my acid pink Skechers or the pink bobs slip ins. They’re so cute!

Pendapala · 11/05/2026 17:32

White trainers are pretty dated I think. And I’m not sure Sketchers have ever been cool. I love mine for the gym but resist the temptation to wear them out and about.

At the moment, I’m enjoying pale grey Softinos, green Onitsuka Tigers and am eyeing up a pair of light blue Sambas.

PolyesterSusan · 11/05/2026 17:35

I don’t like white trainers at all, but find Sketchers are generally neither use nor ornament.
Someone recommended them for work but I didn’t find them particularly comfortable and they aggravated my Plantar Fasciitis.
For Sketchers money you can get something far nicer looking that’s still comfortable.

ihearyoucalling · 11/05/2026 19:27

I love mine, they are so comfy I don't really care. And they are quite cheap in the outlet shops. But I got a beige pair which I think look a bit more trendy (or maybe I'm just kidding myself.) I only ever go out on the school run or to work anyway and I doubt if any of the other mums care. I don't wear them to work!

Ohgoose · 11/05/2026 19:30

I have heard many reports of Skechers being really comfortable but personally I find them really ugly.

If I had foot issues I might force myself but I’d try and find alternatives first.

cleo333 · 11/05/2026 19:34

I spoke to a chiropodist who said they were the worst shoes as they do not hold the feet in a strong position where it is fully supported

Well that’s not the case with mine. I suppose it’s important to get the right size and style but my feet feel well held. I really suffer with corns so I can’t have any slippage and they are great for me

ThePoetsWife · 12/05/2026 06:50

frumpy - sorry OP

They do! My mum went to an appointment with a podiatrist for Plantar and he told her to immediately bin the Go Walks as they are too soft. Similar to how the most cushioned running shoes are only recommended for short or slow runs. Memory foam shoes just form into the shape of a poor gait.
