Affordable alternatives to Skinceuticals vitamin C for rosacea-prone skin?

Monsteronthehill · 11/05/2026 12:28

I received a small sample of Skinceuticals vitamin C in a recent cult beauty edit and, most upsettingly, it is astonishingly good on my skin (mid 40s, rosacea). I caught my reflection in daylight and was astounded at the difference in skin brightness and skin tone overall after using it for just a week. Obviously I'm delighted not to look like Zelda from the terrahawks for a change but not delighted at the ridiculous price tag. I've searched online for dupes and opinion is mixed with some people saying, nope, sorry, nothing else compares. Apparently the Elf one is similar. Look, if it comes to the wall and nothing else is as good then I'll save up and bite the bullet because my god it put me in a good mood but I'd really like to hear if anyone has found something just as effective and that won't take my face off for less money.

Vitamin C serum (and a daily Vitamin C effervescent tablet) completely cleared up my rosacea.

I was going to suggest Obagi, which I now prefer to the Skinceuticals one but I don’t think it’s much cheaper, unfortunately.

Lostsadandconfused · 11/05/2026 13:28

Timeless in the yellow bottle is apparently the closest dupe and it’s cheap as chips.

My favourite is Geek & Gorgeous c-glow. About £12. Best kept in fridge for stability- if buying from their website buy a mini bottle to keep a smaller amount in bathroom.

Monsteronthehill · 11/05/2026 15:20

Thanks so much. I’ll check all these out and see if I get similar results. I think as amazing as the SC one is, the price is ludicrous.

Yes I cant comment on rosacea but I can really recommend Geek and Gorgeous. Ive tried countless Vitamin C serums and this is definitely the best so far. Its been in the fridge for a few weeks now and hasnt oxidised.

Also the geek and gorgeous one is talked about often on skincare subs as the closest dupe to skinceuticals. They both follow the “CE Ferulic” approach: L-ascorbic acid + vitamin E + ferulic acid at a low pH.

Chicci1 · 11/05/2026 15:55

I found the timeless one to be the closest formulation to ce ferulic. It’s very hard to buy though. The place I used to source it from online no longer sell it. I didn’t love Geek and Gorgeous.

Transparent Lab Ascorbic C15 is £9 is really good dupe - same ratio of Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin E and Ferulic Acid. It's a Spanish brand.

It has a slightly more viscous consistency so is easier to apply. I have rosacea and have quite reactive skin but have no issues and I get the same results as with Skinceuticals.

It can smell quite hotdoggy but it goes once absorbed.

Monsteronthehill · 11/05/2026 17:30

Thank you. :) I don't mind the hot dog smell at all. So long as it works.

@maeb have you tried other vit c products and reacted to them? I have reacted to every other one I've tried apart from the Skin C.

I find SkinSort useful to look at ingredients. If you compare what is NOT in Skinceuticals but IS in ones you’ve reacted to you may be able to work out what you are reacting to, if it is an ingredient.

Natures Spell Vitamin c cream and the serum. Completely unintentional find, my daughter gave it me, she got it as a free gift, within a week or so my face looked much clearer. Under a tenner on Amazon or Holland & Barrett

Look for formulas using L-ascorbic acid around 10–15%, ideally combined with vitamin E & ferulic acid since that combination is usually what gives the brighter/more even-toned look. I’d also pay attention to what’s Not in the formula like fragrance/heavy essential oils/aggressive exfoliating acids. Hope this helps!

I’ve just had a look on Vinted for this… are there fakes out there, and how would I spot them! I’ve seen some of these skinceuticals for £30-£35, or £120, or even £15!!

they all look the same and are packaged in sealed boxes

Monsteronthehill · 12/05/2026 09:24

Good shout @PinkPhonyClub thank you. I'll give that a go.

@holidaymay so many fakes. No way would I buy skincare like this from Vinted or ebay.

Thanks so much for all your help with this. I'm going to try a few of the suggested alternatives and report back.

Obagi is good. I will share my routine with that if that helps:
Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
Vit C serum
LRP spf50
Evening:
Merit or LRP moisturizer,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel

curiousbyprocess0614 · 14/05/2026 23:31

L-ascorbic acid, 10–15%
vitamin E
ferulic acid
(this trio gives that brighter fresher look)

Since you have rosacea-prone skin though, texture and pH matter too. Some people tolerate gentler derivatives better, like "sodium ascorbyl phosphate" or "ascorbyl glucoside", especially if pure vitamin C stings.

Look at the ingredient structure instead of the brand so it gives you way more affordable options to compare.

I’ve got rosacea and couldn’t justify SkinCeuticals either. I’ve had decent results with Geek & Gorgeous C-Glow and La Roche-Posay Pure Vitamin C10 — both give a nice glow without being too harsh for my skin.
Not exact dupes, but much more affordable and worth a try if you patch test slowly.
