Recommendations for comfortable T-shirt bras

OrsolaRosso · 10/05/2026 09:52

I'm looking for recommendations for T shirt bras. I used to go for M&S, but looked in there yesterday and was very disappointed with what they had.

I'm a size 40B, and prefer simple designs with no scratchy lace.

Thank you 😊

I will wait for the more knowledgeable women to come along, but my first thought is you must be about 30stone in weight to have a 40” band measurement. And a B cup is only 2” different to your band, so a vest top would be supportive.
Have you done the proper measurements? The one boob or bust recommend.
Measure under your boobs, holding the tape quite tight, and then lean forward so your boobs point at the floor and then measure the widest part of your actual boob. For each inch difference add a cup size, so an A is 1” more and a B 2” more and so on
If the measurement is wrong your boobs won’t look as good, or be supported.
I went into Bravissimo wearing a 34 D and came out in a 32 G and looked so much better, and I weigh about 11 stone and wear a size 12 tops

Not usually one to jump in but how can you assume that and additional 6-8 inches around would add 19 stone to a person!! How bloody rude.
OP sorry don't have any advice except Asda have always been pretty good.

I like next T-shirt bras

redfishcat · 10/05/2026 15:58

I thought I’d put 20 stones, sorry.
The main point is a B cup is a very small boob on a woman with a 40” underboob measurement.

I am an apple shape. I have always had a larger chest circumference, and small boobs. For full disclosure I am a size 16/18 and nearly 13 stone.

I have seen it on here before that it's impossible to have a 40inch under bust measurement without being the size of an actual house, but it is possible!

And yes, I have done the proper measurements.

Some of us have a large rib cage. Mine expanded even more when I had my children and never went back. I’m 38b when I am 13stone. At present I weigh 10 stone and am 36C. I find a smaller band size far too tight, or impossible to fasten.

What bras do you find comfortable, @Astrabees ?

Sainsbury's Tu (also available to order at Argos) has excellent quality bras, and they are often dramatically reduced in price in the sales. Generally the wires are closer together at the centre, and more steeply U-shaped than M&S bras, so the cups feel less shallow for the same volume . A supermarket version of Panache in terms of shape and sizing IMO.

For context, I take my measurements using r/abtf calculator but with Sainsbury's I tend to need to increase the band size without changing the cup size that I get from the calculator. So as a 34F I need a 36F Sainsbury's bra. Both the fancy and t-shirt bras are so comfortable I can fall asleep in them.

As a general rule, I found the modern bra sizing method transformative for me, with two caveats: (1) some people have larger ribcages whatever their weight; and (2) as we age, we tend to have less padding around our chest than when we were younger (is this what middle-age spread means? That the fat spreads itself to the abdomen instead?!), so the ultra tight measurement won't necessarily be very different to the normal/loose under bust measurements.

@OrsolaRosso I have a couple of Bluebella bras that are decorative and comfortable. Also some Next bralettes, a John Lewis T shirt bra and an old M &s very push up one. I prefer a non padded but wired bra
