Can a root tint work instead of foils for greying parting?

I WILL ask my hairdresser but wanted to pick your brains.

I have low lights that are a dark blonde/ bronze shade. I am about 50% grey (natural colour is like the low lights.) I'm not evenly grey and the worst bit is the centre down my parting - sod's law.

After 6- 8 weeks the grey is showing along my parting.

I can't afford to have colour that often as it's close to £175-£200, (with a cut) so I wait another few weeks and have it done around 3 to 4 times a year. I've been using a powder touch up to cover the grey.

I have 2 T sections a year and one half head.

What is a root tint? Is that for all over coloured hair?
Is it any different? Is it possible with low lights are are a set of foils the only option?

It will end up quite patchy probably over time. The low lights may not take properly over the root tint so you’re in danger of ending up with strange stripes bits. You can have regular root tints with highlights, but not so sure about low lights. I guess it will depend what colour root tint you have
