What are One Hundred Stars dresses like on?

I love one on their site but someone told me they’re massive fitting and very very fine material.

Any experiences?

They’re great as beach dresses or similar. I have a couple but can’t remember what style (no defined waist) and I love the prints but don’t wear them unless I’m on holiday!

I have two of the string dresses and they are huge (I'm not small but definitely not huge). They are absolutely gorgeous, incredibly flattering. I wore one to a birthday party and got loads of comments - that style dresses up well with heels, jewellery etc. I'm planning to wear one when I stay on Burgh Island later this year.
The other styles I'm not so keen on because they are a bit tenty.

I’ve got a couple of their kimonos which are ace and a Rachel dress which is not a dress I would wear out. In the garden or as a beach coverage it’s fine but far too thin and nighty-like for a day dress.

Rainallnight · 09/05/2026 16:40

Thanks very much. It’s OK for the beach aspect that worrie me. I’ve got my eye on a couple of them for a wedding

OMG so many typos, and and I can’t edit.

I meant to say, it’s the ‘it’s ok for the beach’ aspect that worries me.

I don’t want it to be wispy and see through, basically.

Honestly, I thought the quality was poor for the price. Didn't wash that well either. Prints are beautiful but they don't match them up at the seams, and the fabric is thin.

InconvenientlyMaterial · 09/05/2026 17:56

I have a couple of Rachels. Mine are thin but not see through (although the material seems different on each of them, one definitely thinner than the other). There's so much drape that you wouldn't want the material thicker IMO. They're good for feeling covered up but not too hot. The shape on the Rachel is very clever. I can't usually wear loose dresses without looking pregnant but these are different.

They're definitely big. The smaller size still fit me when I was a curvy 16.

I am looking at them on Vinted right now. They feel expensive on a cost per wear basis given the weather in the UK…

I wore Rachel dress for a wedding and was told I looked amazing! Dressed up with accessories and shoes I liked it and was comfortable. The fabric on mine was a bit crepey. I can see why people would say it’s suitable for the beach but it also dresses up well

ChristmasCwtch · 09/05/2026 20:07

I’ve got a beautiful dressing gown from there. I love the fabric.

The also have great sales on their website. I bought a few as gifts last year and they were £30 each!!

TallagallaPenguin · 09/05/2026 21:55

There are a few different fabric types they use.
The pinch pleat dresses - quite tenty but comfy - are cotton. Not too flimsy.
The string dresses are crepe - they’re not at all see through but they’re quite loose and gape-y under the arms so if I was wearing them to a wedding I might put a slip underneath. They’re quite light and comfy in hot weather but not quite as cool to wear as cotton.
The kimonos are modal / cupro - that’s the very light weight flimsy “beach holiday” type material.
The Rachel dresses are cupro viscose - this is like a heavy crepe, not at all flimsy. I’d definitely wear these to a wedding - I like mine with a wide belt.

I bought two in their sale this year, never tried them before. The first one was a black flowery number and I wear it out a lot. I think the fabric has faded a bit actually. it’s lined so doesn’t matter about thin top layer. It’s M/L but has a drawstring waist so size doesn’t notice too much. I’m a 14

The second was just a massively huge tent I love the pattern ( rivers and trees) but M/L is an 18/20. Unless you are very tall any of their loose styles will drown you.
I am waiting to see if hot weather changes my mind but I think ebay beckons sadly.

mamansloth · 09/05/2026 22:59

I have one of their dresses and receive compliments on it every single time I wear it without fail (which is always nice)
It’s black based with a striking floral pattern. I wore in winter with knee boots.
Ive tried other dress styles from there and they’ve drowned me but this style (no ide what it’s called sorry, it’s gathered underbust rather than wafty)
I have a couple of their flowy jacket type things too. Brighter for summer. Which again always receive a compliment.

Thank so much for all the great advice on this thread! I’ve taken the plunge and ordered a Rachel dress.

Shoes are my next challenge.

They come with very hard fold creases that I found impossible to remove. They are beautiful on the site but I just could get them to work irl.

mumonthehill · 11/05/2026 17:22

I have a few and the willow pattern one is my favourite. They are thin and generous in size but are so easy to wear. I only ever buy in the sale and often for around the £35 mark so worth it at that price. My favourite thing is a velvet pouch which I adore.

Clogblog · 11/05/2026 17:28

I have a few - I obviously like them or I wouldn't keep buying them but I do agree that they crease. It's extravagant but for special occasions I send them to the dry cleaner for pressing
