Microneedling

Has anyone had Microneedling that can let me know what to expect?

I have impulsively booked myself in for a session…..I’m a complete novice to any treatments. Never even had a facial!

A bit more context if helpful for responses from anyone similar to me….I’ve just turned 50. I think I have a ‘normal’ amount of fine lines with some deeper ones on my forehead which I’m sure have been there since I was a teenager!! I generally have good skin.

What’s it like? Does it hurt? Results? Anything I should know?

I don’t know anyone who’s had it done!

I didn’t find it too painful and I’m a total wimp for pain.

The person I went to started gently and as I have had it done more she has made it a bit deeper. I was nervous about pain and how red I might go!

You can definitely tell afterwards. My skin looks glowing. It’s nowhere near the effect of botox though, but works more gradually over time.

Noshadowsinthedarkness · 07/05/2026 06:43

I am sure you have but do some research about the place you have picked, check reviews too.

I’ve had three sessions over the last few months with numbing gel. It was uncomfortable (especially around my jaw) but I didn’t find it painful. I had very little redness/ swelling afterwards luckily. A few months on my skin definitely looks better and brighter. I’m early 40s so not very lined and haven’t noticed much significant difference in the lines I do have. Overall I’d definitely say it was worth it and I’ll probably have another course of three later in the year.

Thank you. I have done - once I’d impulsively decided I was going to do it!!

That sounds really positive! I quite like the fine lines really, I think they’re nice. I’m not looking to try and turn back time with Botox, just maybe improve what I’ve got going on

I’m surprise someone used numbing gel, does that not interfere with the product they’re needling in?

I get it done regularly OP, hurts a little in tighter areas like the forehead, but not hugely. My skin is in great condition at the moment and microneedling is one of my core treatments.

Fab to hear! They didn’t mention using numbing cream when I spoke to them, just said it might feel uncomfortable, some redness which may last a day or two, no make up for 48 hours etc.
I’ll definitely ask that question!

What else do you do for your skin and would recommend?

Numbing gel is not recommended to be used as it interferes with the healing and injury process.

They wipe it off before they begin the treatment.

I've had it done once, as PP said was uncomfortable but not painful. I was very red (like severe sunburn) for 24 hours but I'm one of those people who do go red quite easily. It died down fine.
I found it purged my skin and I had spots for a couple of weeks afterwards. Didn't really notice much difference beyond that but I think it's one of those things you have to keep doing to really see any effect.

Botox and microneedling are my core treatments. I am religious with my skin care routine now (morning cleanse, vitaman C, niamicide, hyaluronic acid, moisturiser, night time red light therapy, tret and moisturiser). 2-3L of water a day. Collagen and biotin supplements.

i started all this 5 months ago and my skin is the best it’s ever looked. I don’t know if it’s all of it, or parts of it, it’s probably just the water 🤣🤣

I’m impressed! You’re committed!! I cleanse/wash and moisturise 🤣. Occasionally do a scrub. I started using a retinol night serum/cream about 6 months ago and I have noticed the difference using this.

I am a terrible drinker. I have ADHD and often go 10 hours without a drink. I don’t think I manage a litre a day, with most of that being tea/coffee.

I have been using collagen powder most days for several months (again ADHD) and it has really helped a sore knee. I don’t think I’ve noticed it in my skin. I reckon that’s that retinol.

i need to work on the hydration!!

I have this fairly regularly. A few things of note- if the person tells you use this or don’t use that before or after, listen and obey. There’s always a good reason. Expect to feel like you might sneeze when they are doing the forehead, don’t know why, but it often happens! I always book a 15 minute red light session to follow immediately after the micro needling, it does a lot to take down any redness. It’s effective at giving a good glow to the skin, and plumping it up.

IndieRocknRoll · 09/05/2026 13:54

Just don’t plan to do anything for a good few hours after or have it done late in the day so the worst will be when you won’t be out & about. Had mine done first time at 9am, looked like a tomato and had to walk back home through the village hoping I didn’t bump into anyone I knew! Was still very red at school pick up time.

Hi, is there any reasons that would mean microneedling is not indicated?
i had basal cell carcinoma a few years ago (bening cancer cells) - it was treated thru laser therapy.
