Getting my nails done - what to ask for

Sorry if this has been done a thousand times before. I am a ‘nail novice’ and usually just use something basic and paint them at home or wear them bare. However I have DSS wedding in Cyprus in June and thought I would have them done professionally, but there are so many different options and I don’t know what to ask for. I need something that will last normal wear and tear for at least a week as we are flying out 5 days before the actual wedding. I also want something that isn’t going to wreck my own nails. Help!!

Hi nail tech here. What are your nails like normally? If they are quite strong a normal gel polish should last 2-3 weeks. If they are weak and/bendy you might need something stronger like a builder gel or a hard gel to keep them looking nice. Depending on how long they are.

ANY decent qualified nail tech should be able to look at your nails and talk you through what you need. If nail health is important try stay away from extensions and certainly not acrylics. But any decent nail tech should be able to apply nails with minimal damage. Always aim to book a nice mani afterwards to have them professionally removed and add moisture back in whatever you go for.

Enjoy the wedding xx

Thank you. That’s really helpful advice.

I think gel nails, and their removal, no matter how well done, will at best damage your natural nails, and at worse really mess them up for several months.

Have you tried the stick on nails? Glaize, Holy Grail, or just the cheap ones from Etsy or Amazon all last at least a week on me. They look like gels when on, they are easy to apply and easy to take some spares with you in case you do need to re-apply some. They won't damage your own nails either.

I would suggest, budget permitting, getting them done soon and seeing how they last? Then you will have an idea how they might be in June?
