Where do cool young teens shop nowadays?

My 11.5yo (year 6) wants some cooler clothes, but I don't know where to look.

She's 5'3'' and almost outgrown children's clothing (wears age 13-14 or women's 8/10). She's got eclectic tastes - recent looks have included everything from quirky through sporty to skater style!

She liked the look of some things on Zara, but I'm not convinced she will fit their 13-14 and lots of items don't seem to be available in that size either!

The only hit we've had recently was some wide leg cargo jeans from amazon.

Any recommendations?

My DD15 shops from Brandy Melville, Subdued, In Print We Trust, Toms Trunks, Edikted, Urban Outfitters, Hollister, Abercrombie and Fitch, Ralph Lauren (second hand) and you can get really nice things from Vinted!

FirstdatesFred · 04/05/2026 20:34

Mine older ones (14, 18) are obsessed with Hollister and Urban Outfitters. I recently took my (v tall and quite filled out) yr 6 to Hollister, she’s about 5’3 too. I was pleased we found some wide leg jeans that fit her in a 30 waist short (she has a large waist and doesn’t fit kid sizes anymore apart from sometimes Next age 15). Not sure many of the year sixes are into it yet but she liked the stuff: some of the vest tops/camos can be a bit booby but she was drawn to the t shirts and zip hoodies anyway. It’s not bad quality.

Really? I don't think any 11.5yr old would appreciate charity shop items.

fiorentina · 04/05/2026 20:38

Mango, Zara, Bershka, Hollister, ASOS, Nike, H&M. But my DC is an XS adult size.

hahabahbag · 04/05/2026 20:38

Here they shop in sports direct, new look or charity shops because that’s all we have in town . It will vary depending on where you live a lot

For basics the young range at New Look is pretty good, dd got a really nice fake fur jacket from there for Christmas too, as well as some nice jumpers. She has found Top Shop good for things as well as they go down to a 4-6 in a lot of things. Tops mainly as the trousers can be a bit long. H&m is great too and I really like that they reen range has trousers with adjustable waists, just makes getting the fit right so much easier.

Can you get her to put together a Pinterest board of looks she likes?

13 yo DD came back from a shopping trip with her friends today with purchases from urban outfitters, Superdry and Hollister

DD loves a charity shop rummage, always has done -she is now 14.

She also likes New Look 915, the teen bit of Primark, Urban Outfitters, Adidas, Hollister

Then you’re raising them wrong! A branded item of clothing doesn’t lose its branding because it’s been washed a few times before you get to it.

It’s no different to Vinted, which is something like the 3rd biggest fashion retailer - except that a charity profits rather than a person.

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 04/05/2026 21:23

Most of the above and also Motel Rocks

Indeed, DD has a wardrobe of Abercrombie jeans and Superdry hoodies that she paid less than £10 for.

Except that teenagers list recent styles on Vinted having worn them a handful of times. There are loads of second hand things on Vinted that are still available in the shops.

Charity shops tend to have older clothes - both in terms of when they were in season, and the age group that wore them! It is a different market in terms of newness.

My daughter loves rootling through charity shops for bags and jewellery and kitsch stuff for her bedroom, but rarely clothes.

Kids that age shouldn't be on Pinterest.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 05/05/2026 16:27

@bluebunnyblue Zara XS women’s size is small. More expensive but lots of choice. New Look? Not sure how River Island shape up but I’d check out sizes.
