What styles suit a tall pear shape with larger thighs?

I’m really fed up as nothing suits me. Went shopping yesterday and tried on about 750 things and they all looked awful.
Im 5’10 size 8-10 but heavy pear shaped and I have AWFUL cellulite on my thighs (I suspect lipoedema) I’ve tried everything to get rid of it and it won’t shift. That plus my extreme pear shape and everything just looked weird. Out of proportion and all wrong. I’m either swamped by things or if they are more fitted it exaggerates my strange figure.

I have no idea about fashion and I’m really fed up !! Is anyone a similar size / shape and can advise what they wear that actually looks ok as I’m totally lost!

5’10” and size 10 is not strange!! Your figure may not comply with what current fashion dictates, but you are not strange!

I am a shorter and wider pear. I find barrel legs work well for me.

Would skirts and dresses suit better than trousers? Fit and flare style dresses for example.

I’ve got the size 12-14 version of this figure at 5’ 10. I find that I have to take in the waists for the thighs to fit. Look on YouTube for how to do it yourself but I have had my smart work trousers professionally altered. Best cuts for trousers are wide leg and bootleg, as the wider bottom balances the thigh. Barrel legs work too for me. straight legs are tricky and skinny is disastrous - so glad it’s not in fashion but to be honest, I just wore what suited me anyway. I find New Look jeans work well but I have a lot of vintage jeans from places like Monsoon and Next. I would also check M and S. I wear dresses a lot and wear them with belts so that I can pull them in more on the waist - shirt dresses etc. Finally, I can hardly ever get what I want out on the high st - I buy online and from Vinted.

I will give it a try ! I did pick up a couple of dresses then put them back but I think I’ll go back tomorrow and actually try them!

Lucy and yak's Addison jeans are really good for pear and hourglass as the waist is defined but the hips and thighs generous. They do longer length in some colours.

I’m a pear shape as well.

Trousers - go for high waisted or high rise styles which are either bootcut, flared or wide legs. Go for darker colours .

Tops - avoid v-necks. Go for round neck, high neck, halter neck, puff sleeves, patterned, Bardot tops etc.

Skirts - go for a-line skirts

dresses - the ‘milkmaid’ look is good for us, or choose dresses with empire neckline. Again, dresses with puff sleeves or are more highly patterned on the top, with a-lined skirts.

You are not a weird shape. You just have to adapt your clothing to your style (and have confidence!). Also, knowing what colours suit you can help as well.

Good article about pears here.

Your shape and your cellulite are perfectly normal. I understand the frustration at feeling certain things don't suit you though. My advice is stop trying to find a version of ~whatever it is~ that somehow magically works for you. In my case, several decades back, it was bias cut dresses and pencil skirts. Despite these being in fashion, they never looked right in my eyes. So I stopped trying them. Banished from my thoughts. I agree with PPs on getting trousers and jeans tailored. This can be a game changer.

I am 5ft 9 10-12 version of you!

Try Levi’s Ribcage Bell or Wide Jeans - get their app and order using Klarna or PayPal credit - if you are a “Levi’s member” it’s free delivery & returns
you’ll be probably a 25-26 waist and 34 leg
but order a range to check

if they are then too £££ - return and then search Vinted for them

i find the high waist really helps to lengthen the eye up and the bell/flare balances my hips
they do give a little!

Me & Em are cut longer so good for tall ladies - £££ yes - but again worth trying then looking on Vinted if over your budget

Melissa Murrell on Instagram does some good videos on dressing for your shape

are you looking for anything in particular or for a specific event/ thing?

Fit and flare/full skirts/dresses or wide legged trousers should suit you, don't have clothes that will cling to your thighs. To draw the eye away from your bottom half, you could choose tops with interest around the neckline, e.g. scalloped collars, embroidery or applique etc. Try to find clothes that emphasise your waist.
