Which hair straighteners?

Just that really. I had GHDs when they first came out but haven’t bothered sticking to them since other brands developed.

I’d like some new straighteners, not sure whether to go back to GHD, or Diva, Cloud Nine, Babyliss Pro. Currently have the latter and they’ve been great.

Reviews for all are mixed. Back in the day GHD were the first to develop ceramic plates. Obviously everyone else has caught up.

Not sure whether I’ll notice a difference by going back to a more expensive brand or if I’m just being sucked in by marketing claims to do more with lower temperatures.

I’ve been through them all. Started out like you with ghds when they first came out and have had a few other brands including Remington since then. But the past 4 years I’ve been back with GHDs

I have the GHD hairdrier-straightener combi thingy. It’s fabulous! Haven’t used my hairdryer or my normal straighteners since.

PennyPorchetta · 02/05/2026 16:52

I don’t want the combi, just straighteners. I’ve used DD’s combi and find the handle and the actual brush too wide.

I can’t see past cloud 9 and I always had GHDs. I switched a couple of years ago after I felt my ghds were snagging in my hair and just not great.
the cloud9s have and adjustable temperature which I like and the just glide through my hair even after 2 years using them

I really like diva. I’ve been using the wide plate ones for years now, so good. Better than Remington and ghd in my experience.

There’s no brush on the GHD duet, it’s like a wide hair straightener with a built in hairdryer. It has both functions.

I have Remington wet'n'dry and really like them. I think the plates are metal which is fine for me. I have used DDs straighteners with ceramic places and find those snag in my hair.

Another vote for Cloud 9. Replaced my second pair of GHDs last Christmas and my hair is much healthier for having the temperature control.

crazeekat · 02/05/2026 18:21

I’m still a ghd lover purely cos nothing has actually went wrong with them ever and that I’m just used to the size etc, but my pals absolutely swear by cloud nine

PennyPorchetta · 02/05/2026 18:21

There must be different types of duet @Daffodillly , DD's is definitely a hairbrush hairdyer. Anyway, I want simple straighteners.

My hairdresser sells Cloud Nine @donotmissyourchancetoblow which is what made me think - shall I buy some more expensive straighteners.

I have heard good things about Diva @ThirdStorm .

I guess I just need to make a decision and take the plunge! Thanks everyone.

I was loyal to ghd for over twenty years until last week. My last purchased pair went on the blink within 8 months, and the replacement they sent just stopped working too (after 6). I bought the Remington Shine Therapy straighteners last week and they are brilliant, so far. I like that you can adjust the temperature, and they just feel more robust. Straightens my hair as well as ghds. Got them on Amazon for £28 (down from £80), which is pretty incredible really.
