Toddler hair - what to do?

My nearly two year old is currently rocking a boris johnson-esque almost mullet.

He has very thin, straight hair that’s come back in all different lengths and to top it off he seems to have inherited his dad’s high widows peak. It looks alright when I style it but that lasts all of about 5 minutes.

But I’m absolutely loath to cut it short (until he has an opinion on it anyway)

Is there anyway it can be cut to tidy it up without losing much length? Do we commit to the mullet? Do we just need to hang tight through the boris johnson phase?

It’s about collar length at the back but just above his ears at the front

I'd personally cut it and hope it grows back thicker

Agree. Cut the back and sides shorter, longer on top.

I've had my boys hair cut since he was a couple of months ( he had a mop off hair when he was born) so it never became a thing for him.
I don't get your leaving it long till he has a choice to cut it, surely keeping it short till he can decide it's the same thing?

Well no because I prefer it long 😅 It’s not some weird thing about him consenting or whatever I just much prefer long hair on little kids so I’d rather leave it messy than get a short back and sides

just ask the hairdresser or barber to get he it some shape. It doesn’t have to be a short back and sides. Our hairdresser managed to keep some curls but cut it so that it was out of his face.

You don't need "a short back and sides". They can just scissor cut it into shape so it's off his ears and neck.
