Hello!

Very inexperienced makeup user looking for advice.

Im a bridesmaid at a wedding at the end of September. It’s a small wedding on a shoe string budget and as such, there will be no makeup artist. I need to work out how to do at least my makeup for photos (also bride as she is equally clueless…). Usually I’m a skin tint and a bit of mascara lady but I’m imagining I’ll need much more…

Im 40 and have combination skin and will be wearing burnt orange/rust/gold colours.

Any tips, tricks and product recommendations would be very much appreciated!

Go to a big branch of boots, number 7 counter (as reasonably priced) and talk to the counter assistant who can help you with a scheme, write down what they did and sell a few things which you don’t have. I’ve done this a few times over the years

I was going to say go to Space NK or John Lewis. There may be a small redeemable fee but they will help advise and guide

If you aren't experienced at make up, I wouldn't take responsibility for doing the brides make up. Either make your gift a make up session the morning of, or she can do it herself.

I did my own bridal makeup, also a very inexperienced makeup user, by copying a Lisa Eldridge video on bridal makeup.

Worked very well and not difficult although I did skip the eyeliner.

Thanks everybody. I think I’ll take a trip to Boots and see what they say.

Bride would be mortified if I booked a makeup artist for her unfortunately. We’re the type that are much more comfortable with a bare face, jeans and hoodies 😅

As a barefaced person i found that a full face of glam didn't really feel like me so what I wanted for my wedding photos was 'my face but a bit better.'

If you are usually a skin tinted person then why not stick to what you like?

That’s a good point. I was told before my wedding day that I needed more that usual to account for photos and lighting. But in hindsight I could accept that it might have been bollocks

Bobbi brown do a wedding make up tutorial. I'm a minimal make up person but wanted to look a bit nicer on my wedding day and I was really pleased with the results. Cost about the same as a make up artist all in, but I got to keep all the products and use them again (still using some a couple of years on 😳)

Well nobody suggested DH needed makeup to cope with the lighting 😂
