Mental crease (it's a new one on me)

30birthdaygirl · 27/04/2026 19:39

I have recently acquired one of these and I'm really not loving it.

My other lines I can live with but this makes me feel really old! (I'm under 50).

I hate the idea of botox. Does anything else work as well to reduce this please?

I need it gone!

Never heard of it. And I am over 50, so I've heard a lot of things that are 'wrong' with me. What is this one?

I Googled it and it appears to be the crease in your chin that looks very normal that most people have but is now 'a fault'.

I've filed this the under absolute nonsense I don't need to bother about section of my brain 😁

bedfrog · 27/04/2026 20:25

Just googled this and its a horizontal crease on your chin. It's a normal facial feature, don't waste your money on an industry that creates problems with womens faces in order to make us spend money and feel insecure.

Pancakesandcream33 · 27/04/2026 20:29

If you look at before and after photos for that particular filler/botox spot the difference is actually laughable.....unless you have a serious underbite, then its a decent improvement. I think people have completely lost sight of a normal face at this point. I have been subscribed to renew + me for 3 months and my 37 year old face looks better than my face did at 25. No botox or fillers - i want to look human at the end of my glow up!

30birthdaygirl · 27/04/2026 20:30

Thanks but surely it's up to me if I'm bothered by it?

It's quite a deep crease that's appeared in the last couple of months, not the usual shallow one I've had since birth!

Well if it bothers you that much then obviously get fillers but remember they don't fully leave your body even if dissolved and your face will inevitably just keep getting puffier and wider the more you put in. I've seen very attractive women start looking great and then look like a caricature less than a year later. It all starts with a minor flaw.

30birthdaygirl · 27/04/2026 20:38

That's kind of why I'm asking what my options are @Pancakesandcream33

I don't want to use botox or fillers preferably.

I hope that's ok with you?

Not sure there's anything else apart from fillers or botox that would help...lower facelift maybe?

HoldMyWine · 27/04/2026 20:53

No need to be so rude! If you don’t want Botox or fillers maybe you could buy a magic wand?

Sorry that was rude. My apologies to pp.

Just felt that my question was falling on deaf ears a bit (along with the other answers I got).

This is the style and beauty forum and I just want some advice, not to be told my concern is baseless.

Ok fair enough.

Has anyone tried botox for this and it's worked?

I had to Google this op. It's not something I've ever noticed in other people. All faces are shaped differently, children have it too. But I understand that it bothers you and the bit of text I read about it mentioned that it could be caused by tight chin muscles, if it's suddenly appeared, so maybe face yoga type exercises may help?

30birthdaygirl · 27/04/2026 21:25

Thanks @SoapCollector any idea where to find more info about this please?

OP, What's your skincare like in general? I'm sorry if I missed you describing it. I think I'd first make sure that I was doing sustained skincare with hydration, collagen masks, etc, just to see what the situation was when your skin is plump. Then I'd probably get a diamond facial.

Then I'd go to see a good injector. A doctor in a good clinic, not a dentist and not a chain. Get a consultation - there is more than just fillers and Botox.

Hi @30birthdaygirl I googled "mental crease chin face yoga" and it brought up some info and a few YouTube videos. It does sound like the general gist of it is as follows.

The Mentalis Release (Stretching): Gently bite your bottom lip and use two fingers to stretch the skin of the chin downwards. Alternatively, use a thumb underneath to apply gentle pressure, lifting the mentalis muscle away from the bone to release tension.

Hope that helps.

I'm definitely making more effort in this area these days (which is why this is such a nasty shock!), I have regular platinum facials (including microneedling and peels) and am taking supplements as well as recommended facial care, and drinking much more water than usual.

Here is a pic of the crease.

Id never get botox in my chin or lower part of the face. What if it went wrong. Id be worried about my jaw not functioning properly or struggling to swallow.

30birthdaygirl · 28/04/2026 13:27

I agree @Notarealblonde I'm still holding out for a non invasive alternative!!

I’ve got one of those and always have had (am 50 now). Didn’t know it had a name and didn’t know it was a problem!

30birthdaygirl · 28/04/2026 14:27

As said before, it just got deep a couple of months ago @LattePatty it's not a standard one like I've had my whole life.

I do realise everyone has one!

OP posts:
TerracottaWorrier · 28/04/2026 18:37

I would absolutely get a tiny bit of filler in that, OP. Are you using tretinoin? I think that might also soften it a bit over time. There are also those microneedle anti wrinkle patches. I'd probably play with them, too.

Does the crease get deeper with certain facial expressions? A bit of Botox in the muscle causing it could also help in that case.
