Breaking in new loafers - how long should it take?

I've got a fabulous new pair of brogues/loafers. I'm WFH today so its a good time to wear them round the house and break them in.

My left heel is always high maintenance as it takes very little to create blisters and nasty sore patches. So for the first few hours I wore socks AND plasters on the back of my heels. As predicted, my right foot is fine but my left heel is unhappy, even with plasters. I've tried some Scholl foot padding on the back of my heel, but this makes the shoe slightly too tight.

Things are now slightly better, I think the shoes have stretched a bit, but its now mid afternoon and if the shoes were going to be wearable, would I know about it by now? Or do I cut my losses and return them? Or am I just being impatient?

I think shoes that cause blisters are the wrong shoes for you. I’d send them back, and try to find a better fit with softer leather ( or suede).

Would you really return shoes you've worn around the house for hours? That seems a bit yuck to me, even with socks. Have you tried Compeed plasters?

Gosh, I'd expect a couple of weeks if the leather is very stiff.

If they are leather or suede, buy some stretch spray and put them on with some padding over that area to stretch it.

If you've been breaking them in all day on a hot day it's a bit disgusting to return "unworn".

Return them? You've been wearing them, how does that work?

Heat them up with a hairdryer and bash them with a wooden rolling pin, and stick a compeed on your dodgy heel.
