To all the of pyjamas over the years that I have known and loved

...I think it's finally over.

Just a vent really. I don't even want advice or recs since I don't trust anywhere any more.

I have been searching for new pj's now for over 2 yrs, and can't for the life of me locate the fit, quality or value of what used to be in stores.

I only wear cotton for nightwear, so used to purchase from White Co, John Lewis, sometimes Fatface, etc. Back in the very long ago, I used to get them from Next, they were superb and very high quality.
The last time I managed to find a good quality pair was in 2021 from White Co.

Most now are all too long, too wide (so flap around, leg me up on the stairs and ride up when I am sleeping, aaargh!), with a whopping low crotch and reams of unnecessary fabric around the hips. Many, and I mean most, are so thin they're transparent. I am 5'5 and most of the legs are billowing, almost a foot wide and a yard too bloody long. How do petites even find any?? I ain't buying a £12 pair from Primark, even if it's cotton, only to spend another ton having them altered to fit. It's insane.

This is a problem across the board tbh, with most stuff having plunged in quality and fit over the past few years. That in itself is a novel I ain't gonna write here, but I am really getting fed up with it now. Even White Co's PJ's are thinner, baggier, wider and too long, with waists so high they make me look like a clown, yet they are still retailing at £70+ and even higher on Ebay Confused.

The only one's that I haven't yet tried are at Toast, and I really don't want to have to pay over £130 for nightwear. And even then, I don't trust it. Everyhting everywhere is elasticated, oversized and badly proportioned. It isn't just 'fashion' or trends anymore, it's scraping the proverbial barrel.

I suppose I give up. It isn't going to come back, like a lot of stuff isn't going to come back, no matter where we shop or how much we spend. I don't even think we have choices now, whatever the price-point, to a good extent. It seems to be solidly sinking across the board.

I am adding a pic of one of the older styles from White Co, the very last that offered a regular shaped leg, waist and length. Just why oh why can't I have a regular shaped pj with a shirt that isn't cropped, 10 feet wide or with sleeves down to my knees???? Just bollox bollox bollox Angry

Muji have nice pyjamas.

Calypsocuckoo · Yesterday 20:13

I buy short length pyjamas from Hollister which are a perfect length on me and not too wide, you can usually mix and match shorts/tops/trousers which I like. I also have some lovely Chelsea peers ones but they are cotton jersey. They are cuffed so not flapping around the legs (and also have dinosaurs on, not my usual neutral look but they are cute).

Reader19 · Yesterday 20:13

I am thinking about getting some from Sleepy Doe. My child has pyjamas from there and the quality is excellent - thick cotton jersey.

I agree with you about fit too. Genuinely considering trying to sew my own for this reason - it looks doable.

skilpadde · Yesterday 20:14

I’d suggest Bon Prix for 100% cotton, but the legs are wide. I think wide leg and cuffed ankles are just the fashionable styles right now.

Pretty easy with a sewing machine to make the legs a bit narrower and/or shorter without spending a fortune on alterations, if you were so inclined.

I love Chelsea Peers! Always great quality

minipoodlemum · Yesterday 20:20

I am 5’5” and have a pyjama addiction. Cyberjammies and Fatface are both excellent for cotton PJs. Nothing wrong with Primark either - I have several excellent pairs. I have short legs and the length is always ok. I do love a wide leg though so maybe that makes it easier. I never buy PJ tops though - I get the tops I like to wear with PJ bottoms.

Seainasive · Yesterday 20:27

Where are you buying these superlong pyjamas? All mine are way too short after a couple of washes!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · Yesterday 20:28

I have similar requirements for PJs and love Sainsbury’s seersucker PJs that they do every summer. They are 100 % cotton and good quality - far better quality than the price would suggest. I am 5’8” and they are always too short for me, so probably just right for someone smaller.

Jigsaw pyjamas are nice also agree with muji

FreeButtonBee · Yesterday 20:32

I have nice ones from Primark (about the only thing I buy there) and M&S. But I only buy bottoms and wear day wear vest tops on top as I hate pj tops with a passion. I can only wear 100% hard cotton PJs and size up so they are nice and loose.

YourOliveBalonz · Yesterday 20:35

I don’t know it they were a one off in terms of current quality but I absolutely loved the Mistletoe pyjamas from the most recent winter at FatFace. Thick brushed cotton (but not overly so), and decent length in the legs and sleeves that have not shrunk. Nicest ones I’ve had.

Igneococcus · Yesterday 20:38

I love my pyjamas from Uniqlo. I have two flannel ones for winter and just bought a green stripey one in cotton for summer.

SqueakyFromme · Yesterday 20:41

Lands End pyjamas are lovely. All 100% cotton.

I find the same! I’m 5’7 and I get mine from the tall section in Next to account for shrinkage nowadays!

purpleme12 · Yesterday 20:47

I'm with you on the length of many pyjamas and the width of the pyjama legs!

Muji have nice pyjamas.

Also coming on to say Muji. Double gauze cotton, I don’t rate the flannel ones.

aspirationalferret · Yesterday 21:21

I’d recommend Boody PJs. Breathable, comfy and soft and the sizing is good.

Bogorf · Yesterday 22:59

Noctu PJs are fabulous!

decorationday · Yesterday 23:15

I buy pyjamas as separates and buy men's t-shirts for pyjama tops. Better quality for the price and no issues with transparency (or twee accoutrements).

DailyMaui · Yesterday 23:36

I have a few pairs of these double cloth 100% cotton ones from Tu at Sainsbury's. Really like them. They are very comfortable and I do not over heat in them.

They are also really soft which is my holy grail in jammies. I need soft sleepwear.

Thanks everyone but most comments on this thread look like one ginormous ad Grin
I suspect that there are more bots and company reps here than average mumsnetters these days. A bit like the demise of the decent pyjama:)

Whatever happened to S&B???

Fable and Eve do really nice pjs

BlueEyedBogWitch · Today 10:58

I had a pair of pale blue flannel pyjamas, covered in a pattern of fluffy white clouds. They were the perfect level of bagginess, comfort and style. They were by an American company called Nick and Nora, and I had them years before they eventually died.

I mourn them still 😔

YourOliveBalonz · Today 12:20

I’m not a bot or a company rep, and I’ve rarely strayed in to the style threads - think I’ll not bother in future 😂 Good luck on your pyjama quest anyway
