Best foundation for age 45+

I know there has been a thread for best foundation, but I'm asking specifically for older skin - I've heard that dewy is better than matt, how true is that?

I don't think I need mega coverage as I don't wear foundation usually- but I want a good one for nights out.

Recommendations appreciated 🙏

I’m now in my fifties and now think a slightly dewy look suits me better than the completely flat matte. I used to really like Boots No7 Hydraluminous foundation, I’ve now moved on to less coverage with Erborian BB cream. Or for higher coverage IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better cream. Then a very light powder in the centre of my face but hardly any.

Boots No 7 Hydraluminous is good. E.l.f. Soft Glam foundation is also good if you want medium coverage. I have rosacea and find that BB and CC creams don't give enough coverage meaning I need to use quite a bit of concealer on top, which defeats the object.

Armani luminous silk

I actually prefer Clinique cc tinted cream - moisture surge - it kind of looks like a lightweight dewy foundation and isn’t remotely orange on either- my H actually commented and asked what was using as he thought it looked really good - I’m 64 with decently good slightly dry fair skin

Victoria Beckham. So expensive but it’s amazing.

I use the Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser and it’s great for giving a glow and evening out skin.

As ever, am here to praise L’Oréal true match serum which is just amazing and inexpensive. Feels like skin care, buildable, lasts well, just ignore the messy dropper. Also loving the Armani skin tint but obviously that’s £££.

Agree this is very good

As ever, as am I. Amazing stuff. I always have three in my stash against the day they ever discontinue it.

Bobbi Brown intensive serum foundation on top of the BB serum primer. The BB serum primer is also good on its own.

I like Lisa Eldridge skin tint. I tried the L’Oréal serum one but the shade range is so narrow that I couldn’t get a good colour match.

CC creams, BB creams and serums are much better for mature skin than matte foundations. Check out Erborian, Clarins has a good tinted oleo-serum and Korean brands are brilliant, I have several Missha bb serums.
I also find that less is more - use a foundation brush and put foundation where needed as opposed to a thick layer all over.

Dewy is more flattering because it reflects light away from texture/fine lines! For occasional evening wear (where you want something that photographs well & lasts) a serum foundation or skin tint with a silicone base & buildable coverage gives that lit finish. Dimethicone early in the INCI is a good indicator of a formula that moves with the skin rather than settling into lines. Application with a damp sponge rather than a brush. Hope this helps.
