Dermaplaning

Talk to me about dermaplaning please! I have no idea where to start or what to use. I have quite a lot of peachy fuzz on the sides of my face. I am very blonde so it’s not overly noticeable but I’m thinking about dermaplaning it. But I’m worried it will grow back thicker, darker or more noticeable. And I also have absolutely no idea what to use. Any advice please?

It’s so satisfying to see all
the fuzz come off. Not noticed any extra re growth.

Dermaplaning removes vellus hair at the surface level and has no effect on the follicle structure underneath, so regrowth comes back exactly the same texture and colour as before. For at-home use, a single-blade dermaplaning tool rather than a multi-blade razor gives you more control and less risk of irritation.

You want one of these:

Tweezerman dermaplaner

Boots / Amazon, etc have them as well. It’s not obvious from the photos but the edge of the blade is more like a comb, not like a razor. Works beautifully.

Do not use a razor. That would bring a world of trouble.

Love it after and for a few weeks. Mine is also blonde and probably not that noticeable but it has definately got fuzzier with age. However, now I dermaplane, as it grows back in I notice it a lot. The shorter regrowth stick up and catches light a little more, but only for a few days/week and if left, grows back to how it was.

i would love to get that spray you see some using online that shows up your hairs more.
definitely a skill in doing it so any recommendation if products to help appreciated.

inuse standard super market bought dermaplane single use (think Wilkinson).
most important learning points for me; don’t exfoliate before as this increases irritation.
make sure your skin is actually freshly cleansed/washed but absolutely dry or little nicks and irritation more likely.
make sure you have a clean pillow case that night (I do in evening time so skin has a long break before make up) to minimise spots after.

Same as @Reginaphalangeeeeefor me. I think it does show a bit more when it grows back and even seems longer than it was before. I’ve started now so can’t go back.

I regret it. I got it done at a salon when my hair started growing back after chemo and I had really obvious fuzz on the sides of my face. The first time I went I was thrilled, my face looked ten years younger. Got it done again 6 weeks later, it was fine but I felt a bit more uncomfortable during the facial. The third time, I felt she really irritated my skin and afterwards I had lots of little spots. I didn't get it again but the hair never came back. That was almost 2 years ago and recently I got lots of irritation in the same place, little red spots that now seem to have left permanent scars. I now think the dermaplaning damaged my skin barrier and made it generally more sensitive.

If your hair isn't noticeable, I'd probably leave it alone.

Dermaplaning is one blade shaving. Much better to use a 4 blade razor. I use a Harry’s men’s razor. Shaving the blonde hairs from your face cannot make them grow back darker or thicker.

The blade on the Tweezerman tool is not the same as a flat razor blade. And it doesn’t cause the same reaction.
