Moisturisers for very acne prone skin

I am in my forties and have always had acne prone skin. I put as little on my face as possible and after years of regular make up this has made a difference but I do need a moisturiser now I’m getting older.

most formulations instantly give me loads of whiteheads, and if I keep using them then it turns cystic.

i can use 47 skin moisturisers and serums but they arenMt very hydrating for older skins.

Any other recommendations ?:

The ingredient profile to look for instead is glycerin, niacinamide, and squalane as the base. A hyaluronic acid serum underneath a minimal squalane-based moisturizer gives older skin the hydration it needs without the comedogenic load. Check the full INCI rather than relying on non-comedogenic labelling.

I’ve always used Nivea mattifying day cream, which has never triggered my skin to break out (I have combination skin and had awful acne in my teens and 20s).

Now mid-40s, it’s not really heavy duty enough, so I’ve been trying Beauty Pie products which work really well for me. Mainly the triple HA serum and super healthy skin anti ageing cream.

I use the centrella one from Dermatica, I just buy it when I need it, you don't need to subscribevto their service. It is about £13.00. My DC finds it v good too and it is calming.

I find Nivea Q10 Pore Minimising Day Cream works really well.

I hadn’t used a moisturiser for years because they all gave me spots but in my mid fifties I felt I needed one.

After much trial and error I found this one and it doesn’t block my pores and it has made my skin look and feel much nicer.

Costs £15 and even better is frequently on half price offers.

My skin is the same, and I now use Skin&Me's light moisturiser. I find it perfect - it isn't greasy, doesn't clog my pores or make me break out, and is a good base for make up. I think you can buy it without signing up. I'd recommend the foaming cleanser, too. The two of them together has really been a godsend.

This is good advice! I have very sensitive, acne-prone skin and react well to these three ingredients generally.

Having said that, my current moisturiser is the fragrance-free Neutrogena Water Cream, which only has glycerin of the three above (I use a separate niacinamide serum) and it's great - cheap and lasts ages, although I don't like that it's in a pot (not hygienic).

Other faves are Klorane Peony Moisturiser (pricier per ml but very soothing) and all/any LRP Toleriane moisturisers. Of the latter I slightly prefer the fluid/runnier ones but love them all.

Cosrx products also work very well for my skin - their Snail Mucin cream might be worth a go for you?

Centella is also a good ingredient to look out for - it's in loads of Korean skincare. If you have a TK Maxx nearby you could consider a bit of trial and error of whatever well-reduced Korean moisturisers are in their beauty section! They tend to be very soothing, as skin barrier support is a big component of Korean skincare.

I swear by Clinique moisture surge - the normal one, not the extra rich.
