Early 50s. Have 2 piercings in each ear lobe already. Considering a third. Play safe and have 3rd in lobe?

Dd had cartilage which took ages to heal, I at the same time, had my third done, technically still a lobe, but high up in the little dent at the top of the lobe below the fold.still was a little uncomfortable to sleep as its just next to the cartilage. I was 60.

I had my nose done in my 40s. It healed quickly and no problems at all. It was done in Selfridges (posh girl, me 😀) and the piercer was lovely.

@dogonthefloor just wondering why I shouldn’t have the same number each side?

Because to have the same on each side is just wrong and shouldn’t be legal 😂
Im mid 50s and had just one of my lobes double pierced when I was 14…I then went on the obligatory piercing frenzy in my early 50s and have different piercings on each side …there’s just something in me that feels to have the same side is wrong 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thanks so much for the replies. Thinking of adding a mid helix or high lobe to one side. Best to do both sides or one?

I think once you’re going into high lobes or cartilage piercings then they really don’t have to match.

Anyone had a tragus piercing in their 50s? Will it look like I’m trying to be young?! And how painful is it?!

Go for a conch.
So pretty and because it's inside your ear it doesn't cause any real sleeping problems. Or a rook, come to that. Helix is a different story though

CJCreggsGoldfish · 09/05/2026 21:18

Helix is a pain in the arse to heal because it’s in a place where you catch it a lot. My easiest ones to heal were the conch and tragus, neither of those particularly hurt to get done either.

As a previous poster said, get them done and leaven them alone. I sprayed mine twice a day with nailmed to clean but didn’t touch them. It’s also important to get the jewellery downsized after about 2 months.

I am 59 - I had my lobes done at 14 , 2nd one in my lobe at 18
Then a gap , got my daith done end 2021 ( 55yo) then my forward helix at 57 and tragus about 58

They healed fine , the forward helix was the worse to heal .
Wearing headphones is the main downside .
I wear a facemask at work , I have to remember not to rip it off !

I have four piercings in one ear and two in the other . I am planning something to take it up to three

Painwise - it depends on how thick your cartilage is and how skilled your piercer is .I was waiting for the "ouch" but there wasn't . Not even a crunch .
You 100% need a needle piercing , I have seen cartilage piercing offered in high street places , I don't know if its done with a gun or needle . ( A gun is disaster for the cartilage )
Worst bit was the fiddly-ness of them fastening the back on .

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 09/05/2026 22:21

I had my third done at a similar age. Took a tear to heal. Healing takes a lot longer when older. Factor that in.

Girlwithapple · 09/05/2026 22:22

Don't play safe! I have 20 piercings in my ears, different on both sides 😉 I'm late 40's now but have had multiple piercings since my teens. Rook and conch would be my suggestion for easier healing as they are tucked away.

I had it done in my 40s. Go for it! It wasn’t painful, and loads of women have it done of all ages.

I had my nose done in early 20s with a gun. It never really healed properly and I took it out after about 18 months. Tempted to have it again (done properly with needle) but worried it wouldn’t heal. Any advice? I’m 51
And definitely agree on not going equal when having 2/3 lobes.

MississippiCroc · 10/05/2026 07:23

@somedogsdo go to a local reputable piercer. Look on social media or friends for recommendations.

My nose was done with a needle and no probs at all. I would suggest after you have selected your piercer, you have a discussion with her. Good luck, l’m so pleased l had mine done, l’m in my late 40s.
