Foundation recommendations for flaky skin while using tretinoin

I use tretinoin which has done absolute wonders for my skin and fine wrinkles. Have been using for a couple of years now. The only downside is that I do still get some intermittent shedding. No problem as I often do not wear face make up and just exfoliate and whack on my moisturisers. But for the few days when I have both shedding and want to wear make up for one reason or another I’m a bit stumped. My usual cream to powder foundation exaggerates the appearance of flakes and I have t had much more success with liquid. Does anyone have any recommendations? I prefer something not to heavy that I can whack on easily. Thank you!

My face flakes a lot with tret too and I find L'Oréal True Match (the serum one) good. My chin is the worst area for flaking and sometimes it's best just to avoid putting anything other than moisturiser on it!

I use L'Oréal bb cream more of a tinted moisturiser than foundation so isn't really dry but smooths skin tone.

That’s very common with tret, it makes makeup sit differently when the skin is shedding. Avoid anything powder-based, go for a light hydrating liquid or serum-type foundation instead. Also, before makeup use a richer moisturizer and give it a few minutes to settle. You can even gently remove loose flakes with a soft cloth beforehand (not aggressive exfoliation just light prep). The goal is to make the skin as smooth and hydrated as possible first, then keep the makeup light so it doesn’t cling.

Thank you all for these suggestions, will check them out!

Hello, I know you said light coverage, but I’ve been on roacctuane twice which is the oral equivalent for acne, and I just used max factor pan stik with a brush or fingers and apply where I wanted. I know it’s full coverage, but because it’s thick it seemed not to highlight dry skin. I was on the medication for a long time and believe you me I tried a lot of different foundations. I used to wear full makeup for work. Tom Ford also do a pan stik style foundation which is equally effective.

mac factor is quite cheap so if you got one & hated it, you wouldn’t have wasted a lot of money.

I have an oil balm stick. It's a bit like a massive lip balm from Oceanly
Tbh I only got it as it was on someone's listing on vinted and added it to make a bundle

Anyway, on flakey days I apply it just before suncream, which is usually tinted spf. I use garnier glow 50. And all works out grand
