Please talk to me about filler/botox

Since losing weight the lines and drooping round my mouth and chin is quite obvious.
Thinking of having some filler done. I’ve not had any before.
I’ve had a look online and suggestion is the filler would go in cheek area and that would lift mouth area.

I don’t want it to look really noticeable, just fresher.

So please tell me often would I need a tweak, and rough costing. Thank you!

I would advise booking in with someone and getting a proper consultation (a nurse or doctor not someone who isn’t correctly trained). It’s impossible to advise without seeing a picture of you however a procedure that focuses on skin tightening might be more beneficial. Morpheus8 is incredible (costly but worth it) Botox is good for wrinkles depending on how deep set they are and how fast your body metabolises it

I haven’t had filler in my cheeks but I had it in my lips for hydration and because I felt like the bottom of my face was losing shape and going flat.

I had it done last June and it doesn’t need redoing yet.

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 18/04/2026 16:04

I’ve not had it yet but my sister and two of my SILs have and I will say you can tell who paid more. SIL spent a decent amount of money and she looks like her, but with a few years knocked off. She also got a chemical peel which also kind of added to the youthful glow. I actually got a mild peel myself when I saw her results and I really rate that. My sister did it on the cheap and openly regret it. She doesn’t look horrible (she is very beautiful anyway) but it doesn’t look great and you can tell she’s had work. I think it’s one of those “you get what you pay for” things.

Shop around, get a consultation, chose someone you like and start minimalistic. That’s how I’m going to go about it when the time comes.

I’m saving for CO2 laser op, the effects are amazing, especially if you go fully ablative (which I won’t, I don’t need that extreme a makeover). I had thought I’d do Morpheus8, but there’s a danger of unwanted facial fat loss, making your situation worse!

So photo for reference. I’ve looked at the Morpheus8, thanks for the suggestion. What do you think please?

I have Botox and Profhilo from a registered nurse. It’s really good. I look like myself, no “work” obvious, just a bit more well rested and “bouncy” faced!
It’s expensive and Profhilo bloody hurts but it takes seconds and it’s worth it, for me.

Legolaslady · 18/04/2026 20:07

Do you have a picture where you are not smiling? ( Only cos it lifts your mouth up so can't really see the lines properly)

harriethoyle · 18/04/2026 20:10

@Shallysally i just posted a thread a couple of days ago about getting my marionette lines done. I’ll see if i can find it and tag you in it. Am very pleased with the results.

I had a “facelift” using filler. I use the term loosely as obviously it’s no where near as effective as a proper facelift. Basically I’ve had small amounts of filler put in my cheeks, mid face, jawline and chin. It’s created a scaffold effect so helped with pre jowls and definition of my jaw. It’s very very natural (I hope) and I just look fresher.

Legolaslady · 18/04/2026 20:40

I think filler in your cheeks could help

Legolaslady · 18/04/2026 20:41

Do you might need asking for old you are? You have great skin. But your cheeks have lost volume so gravity has pulled your face down a bit

Shallysally · 18/04/2026 20:46

Thank you @Legolaslady I’m 55

Best Advice
Do not go to whoever because there cheaper
get a dermatologist who does injections etc

i chose one with a good grade of injection qualified rather than paying £200 more for the dermatologist
This is my 2nd time back this week as on review I told her I couldn’t tell any difference after 3 weeks. She seemed to put more filler in this time . I can tell slightly (not that I wanted to be noticeable) but a really qualified person would of got it spot on first time
min going back for review this week and will be telling her I’m not happy

cost £580

Shallysally · 18/04/2026 21:35

Thanks for the advice @Mancity08. Sorry you’ve not had a good experience.

I've done Profhilo and it was a complete waste of money. I've gone for Sculptra now and just finished my last session. Can't see any difference so I guess that was another waste of money. Sad

harriethoyle · 18/04/2026 21:59

Yes @thenightsky i had the same experience with profilho- I think it only really works if you have very dehydrated skin which I don’t. Am considering sunekos but I need to do more research.

MSJ14 · 19/04/2026 20:07

I had my frown line done (South Yorkshire £120 for context) best decision I have ever made and I wish I had done it sooner. I found the lady I went too through looking at recommendations, asking people who I know have had work and asking who they used etc.

Thank you @Legolaslady I’m 55

I’ve no advice to offer as no experience of any of this- just wanted to say you look fab! I would never have guessed 55

essexmam89 · 19/04/2026 20:10

You look great for your age filler will definitely improve the areas mentioned , make sure to use a registered nurse or dr anyone else doing it isn’t medically trained

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 19/04/2026 20:33

I started with Botox and had some filler put in last year for the same reasons as you and because I am now 54. I go to a practitioner who works out of a dental surgery and who is also a qualified pharmacist. It is crucial to get a qualified practioner and not just go to someone working out of their kitchen. She explained to me that, if placed incorrectly, filler can cause blockage of veins which can cause serious problems. I have had no problems and it was really important to me that my filler looked natural and you wouldn’t know that I’d had it by looking at me. In all, I’ve had some in my cheeks, chin and around my jawline. I’m happy with what I have and won’t be getting any more for a while.

Youarenotseriouspeople · 19/04/2026 20:39

@MSJ14 could you share the clinic you used? Ive sent you a PM if you prefer

OnlyHasEyesForLoki · 19/04/2026 20:58

I’m 58 and lost a lot of weight and my face caved in basically. I’ve always had Botox (brow and glabella) with a registered nurse who specialises in this field and I’ve used for many years who is very cautious. I had some filler in my cheeks and my naso-labial folds and jaw line just to look like me again. He did it a bit at a time cautiously over a few months until we were both happy (he refuses to overfill anyone no matter how much money they want to spend). Botox is pretty affordable but the fillers are a lot more expensive - he didn’t charge me for extra small tweaks but it still cost £800 in the end. Filler should last 9 months plus and often never go away completely hence his caution so I probably won’t need so much next time. I could get it cheaper in a beauty salon but I’d rather pay for safety.

Thanks for the advice everyone. A friend has recommended someone to me.
She’s a registered nurse. Lots of good reviews for her.

She does filler, not Botox. Is filler a better product?
