Gentle facial moisturiser help

Tinks15 · 16/04/2026 10:22

Please help me find a super sensitive gentle moisturiser that doesn’t break you out. I have such sensitive skin & all moisturiser’s either break me out in big red pimple type spots or cause little bumps under the skin.

I’ve never been able to find one that suits my skin therefore I barely use it these days but have notice I have dry patches on my face & my make up doesn’t sit right.

I dont want to spend loads but I do want something that works.

Thanks

The byoma range is worth looking at.

Fulvic face cream from Victoria Health?

corblimeygvnr · 16/04/2026 10:30

La Roche Posay from Boots.

Bobby Brown vitamin enriched face base is a primer but with loads of hydrating qualities and basically acts as a moisturiser. I wear it daily under my makeup and have found I now don’t need a separate moisturiser (I had the same issues as you) it also smells amazing!

Cerave lotion

SisterMaryLuke · 16/04/2026 13:18

I have similar skin and have used Byoma; Simple Light and Simple Rich; Cerave; La Roche Posay and had no success with any of them plus lots more. Just this week I have tried Vanicare Daily Facial Moisturiser (from iHerb) and - touch wood - seems good. No sore eyes, no spots, no itching. Fingers crossed it continues.

ToddlerMumma · 16/04/2026 13:20

I can only use simple light moisturiser. Anything else gives me spots. I’d love to use serums, lotions, lovely thick creams but, alas, I can’t

OneGreenSheep · 16/04/2026 13:24

Another vote for the Simple moisturisers, they don’t irritate my skin and are so good for the price. I’m sure there is also an SPF version if you need SPF.

SisterMaryLuke · 16/04/2026 13:27

Just to add - Simple Light was OK ish - no reaction to it, but I didn't find it quite moisturising enough, whereas the Rich was too rich and broke me out.

1emma19 · 16/04/2026 13:28

The goal is to keep things as simple and low-risk as possible. I’d look for a moisturizer that’s very basic, no fragrance/no essential oils. Ingredient-wise, glycerin, ceramides, & squalane are usually well tolerated & help with dry patches without clogging. Also worth considering that those “little bumps” can sometimes come from using products that are too rich or layered too heavily. A lightweight lotion might work better for you than thicker creams.

Olay double action (sensitive) £5 ish.
I have really sensitive skin, can't use any nut butters, lanolin + more. This Olay one is good.

Aveeno Calm & Restore Oat gel moisturiser - it’s a game changer for sensitive skin

Tinks15 · 16/04/2026 21:44

Thanks everyone for all your replies. I shall take a look at all your recommendations.

It’s such a pain not knowing if it’s going to be suitable or not.

Le Roche posay have an amazing acne brand, used to work in a pharmacy and people would come in raving about it

Shufflebumnessie · 16/04/2026 21:59

My super sensitive & reactive skin is far less so since I've been using The Inkey List Niacinamide serum, morning & evening. I have far few breakouts and reaction to products.
I'm also using their Bio active seaside moisturiser and it's pretty much the only one I've tried that doesn't immediately cause a break out or irritate my very sensitive eyes.

MiaKulper · 16/04/2026 22:01

If it's of any help, @Tinks15 , I posted 2 recommendations (first reply on thread), one budget and one I knew would get several others recommending it.

I’d look for a moisturizer that’s very basic, no fragrance/no essential oils. definitely.

I recommended the Simple one because I trust it. I had a bad case of contact dermatitis a few years ago and couldn't tolerate much until it had fully cleared.
I've not tried the other one because the sensitivity went away.

Have a think about other products you use. When my skin was bad, things like shampoo and facewashes were very painful to use.

Own brands like Boots, Superdrug and Waitrose should be OK as long as you stick to the 'simple' ones. Waitrose Pure Day Cream | Waitrose & Partners is nice.

MiaKulper · 16/04/2026 22:10

Simple Kind to Skin Hydrating Moisturiser | Waitrose & Partners on offer (£2.56 for 125 ml) and with SPF 15.
