Help with sizing and pricing a second-hand Versace dress

I have a second hand Versace dress I'm selling on behalf of the husband of a dear friend who is in a nursing home with advanced dementia.

Her husband is trying to de clutter as he is hoping to be in a position to sell the house and it's currently over run with around 300 garments (big walk in wardrobe, money no object scenario, plus ex shop stock). These clothes are mainly designer, YSL, JPG, Armani, Versace, etc, he's trying to de clutter as much as he can as he will be selling their house in the future.

He's asked a couple of her friends to help sell these, I'm currently selling some on vinted and ebay another friend is selling through word of mouth.

The dress I'm struggling with is a Versace black dress. I'm selling it as second hand because there's no tags on it but it actually looks like its unworn, I think she was a bit of a shopaholic and there are many such garments with tags removed but never worn stashed all over the place, we are uncovering more clothes every week! The label has 34/48 on it but I have no idea what size this actually is. It's complete with all the authentic labels but I also need a guide on pricing as well as sizing. Its 100% polyester with a lovely brushed effect.

Anyone have any idea please? Thank you

There's one on Ebay US for $90. Unsold.

You also need to understand that there are different lines within Versace too. Versace Jeans Couture is their younger, more casual line and was manufactured by someone else so prices will be cheaper.

I think that the first number is the waist size and the second number is the Italian dress size.

Take actual measurements of the garment and post those online, making sure that you emphasis they are the garment measures X at the bust and not the bust size of the person.

I have no idea what the 34/48 means … an Italian 34 will be teeny tiny, a 48 is around a UK 16.

It’s lovely that you and some other friends are trying to help, but wouldn’t it be better to actually get a professional in to take the whole lot? Obviously they will take a decent cut, but it’s probably no more than selling the designer stuff on specific sites.

I tried to help out a friend of my parents many years ago, selling memorabilia. It was an absolute bloody nightmare. Advertising it, getting the write up correct – people will pick over the slightest thing if they view things differently to you – Wrapping it, posting it… It’s an awful lot of work.

34 is the waist size in inches. 48 is the Italian size so approx UK 14-16 (accounting for the fact that many designer brands run small)

Google lens it; you’ll see what it goes for on other sites. If selling on Vinted, you could choose new without tags. Do list with the sizes for both Italy, and the EU. I once bought a jacket off Vinted listed as a 42/L (I’m in France, so those are the default sizes). However, it was an Italian 42 which is the equivalent of a French 38. So add measurements, and sizes in different formats.

The second label (Ittiere) is the factory label for where it was made. There’s one near us in Italy; they make loads of generic outfits and then the individual brand label gets sewn in last.

Tbh, don’t expect to get a lot. It’s polyester for one, so not going to command a premium price, plus it’s not really Versace per se, but the most basic iteration.

If money is no object, would donating it be something he would maybe be interested in? I think there are some charities which specialise in handling designer clothes if it would feel inappropriate to donate to a charity shop.

Sorry to hear about your friend. It is great you and her other friends are there to support her husband 💐
