Best hair styling tool for smoothing shoulder length wavy frizzy hair?

Help I need a hair styler thing and I haven’t a clue. They all look enormous and terrifying and £500!
I have shoulder length wavy / frizzy hair. I’d like to smooth it and add some smoother waves if that makes sense.
can anyone recommend something? I have a bog standard hairdryer and I did have ghd straightener till kids got hold of it. I may also be lacking confidence/need a glow up.
thanks!

Whaatthe · 21/04/2026 14:47

I got the Revlon one but it never got my hair smooth as the air blows quite strongly and it looked a bit frizzy too - menopausal hair texture. Have got the GHD Blowdry duet as only wanted one tool and it is fabulous - spendy but one tool and done and lasts for days and have shared details with lots of friends and they have asked! Good luck

Shark hot brush! It’s amazing and can be used on wet and dry hair

WorriedRelative · 21/04/2026 15:35

I have a shark one, similar to the glossi but under £50, it is called the Shark Smoothstyle, it is a big huge thing but dries, smooths, and can add a gentle curl or straighten my coarse wavy hair.

Whaatthe · 30/04/2026 18:50

thanks all! I ended up with the revlon as that and the shark great big fancy set was all that was in boots - and I just couldn’t justify the £2-300 for the shark without trying it.
its ok and it’s quite smoothly so i was pleased- but it takes AGES. you’re right it can leaves hair frizzy or maybe I’m not doing it enough .
it got me through a wedding tho and was the same price as a blow dry (!)
mind you husband thinks £150 on a shirt is ok. Maybe I need to change my thinking!
thank you everyone.the shark smoothstyle sounds good too. They all do! I’ll end up with a collection!

I have curly frizzy hair and I bought WOW dream curl coat and it’s an absolute game changer! I air dry and now have ringlets instead of a mop of frizz. I’ve bought so much curly girl crap and this is amazing

GinandGingerBeer · 02/05/2026 10:55

That’s good to know @seanconneryseyebrowDo you use anything else with it? Gel/curl cream? Or just the Wow on its own? I do get great results with tootilab gel but all the wet styling takes too long sometimes, quicker to revert to using
my babyliss big hair or GhD styler!

Grabity · 02/05/2026 11:02

Is the Babyliss Bigbrush still a thing? I bought one years ago. It gives me what a salon would call a curly blow dry (soft sleek bouncy hair not curls like a perm or curly girl method). There’s a knack to it but once you get it, it’s very easy. I’m hopeless at blow drying but I find this really easy.

Nothing else at all but shampoo conditioner and leave in conditioner. Just scrunch in the wow on sopping wet hair and air dry. Which is usually unheard of for me cos I’d look like hagrid. I don’t know what scorcery this is but as a lazy person who was sick to death of fannying about with curly girl stuff and diffusing I’m chuffed to bits

Noshadelamp · 02/05/2026 11:07

Use smoothing haircare products as well, shampoos, conditioners, serums/creams etc

Some will have silicones so you might need a clarifying shampoo once a month.
Silicones aren't all equal though, some are designed to wash out easily so don't be afraid of them.

Not all smoothing shampoo and conditioner use silicones.
Some work using ph to shut the hair cuticles and formulations that avoid static.

tarheelbaby · 02/05/2026 11:19

Heat protection and other products are key.

I blow dry to 90% or so with a regular hairdryer and then I use tresemmé heat protection spray and a Remington wet/dry straightener to tame the frizz.

In humid/holiday/beach times or when there's not time to straighten, I use Umberto Giannini crème de curl and go for a curly girl look.

This sounds like magic. Which particular Wow product is it @seanconneryseyebrow?

This sounds like something I need. Is it called color wow? Could you post a link please so I know which one exactly you are using?

Thanks!! 🌺
