Melasma treatment

Has anyone treated melasma successfully, using hydroquinone, Azeliac acid, or something else?

I have loads of pigmentation on my forehead, cheeks, upper lip and bridge of nose and it looks awful.

I’m also on permanent chemotherapy, so mindful of what I put on my face.

Many thanks.

My husband bought me an LED mask from Lux Skin (was only about £50) so decided to give the yellow light a go and it massively helped. Hasn't completely gotten rid of it but I'm a lot less self conscious.

Decided to treat myself to a much more expensive and powerful mask at the end of last year as I thought it might help even more but it actually bought the melasma back very quickly so have gone back to the cheap one to get rid of it again.

I got rid of mine by using hydroquinone from Dermatica. Now I maintain the results by using Eucerin Serum and SPF50, both with Thiamidol in them and it's staying away. I think the issue is that you can't just use a cream for a few months then stop when it goes away. It's a permanent regime. I also use Tretinoin but my skin breaks out with Vitamin C so I avoid that.

What % hydroquinone did you use from dermatica. I have fairly sensitive skin and that’s the only thing which puts me off using it. That said, I am desperate to get shot of this melasma. Even if I can just get it to fade a bit, would be something.

How does the LED mask work?

I’m not sure but each colour light has a different benefit and green and yellow are good for pigmentation. I use it for 30 minutes 3-4 times a week after cleansing my face.

Thanks. Definitely worth investigating. How bad was your melasma before you used the LED light?

It was pretty bad as it was really patchy on my forehead. I can still see it when I look for it but it’s not the first thing I see when I look in the mirror any more which is nice.

I used 4% Hydroquinone. It took a few months to clear up completely so I covered it with make up until then. My skin did peel at first so I used Nivea Creme in the blue tub as a night cream. I swear by it, it's so good and I still use it now. I also had a sunspot on my cheek thar vanished completely and has never come back. My melasma was pretty bad, over most of my forehead and a bit under my eyebrows.
