How can I achieve this style with fine straight white hair?

My hair is fine, straight and pure white. I usually use a hot brush to give it some body and wave, but I really like the style in the photo. I don’t mind getting a perm, if this is what is required, but I’m particularly interested in styling brushes/wands etc which might help achieve this. Any ideas

Small electric rollers and lots of mousse

FallenMadonnawiththeBadBoobies · 05/04/2026 14:08

Electric rollers? I’m off to Google. Thanks.

I literally have this hair naturally. Except its red. Well chuffed that you want it! I will say though that it is in the lap of the gods what it looks like when I wake up - usually like something out of a Tim Burton movie. To manage it I need curl creme and lots of. I leave it sopping wet, and put loads through it and scrunch scrunch scrunch then leave it to dry naturally and it comes out like that. I imagine a perm would mean you would still have to do that. Curly hair is fab but frizz isnt great. Funnily enough I have considered a perm just to make it more manageable and consistent - i don't like waking up not knowing how mental it may look. But i do wonder if it would even help.

Love that style! It’s years since I had a perm, lbut surely they don’t necessarily mean dealing with frizz, do they - only if you have a tight perm? What about a body wave perm?

FallenMadonnawiththeBadBoobies · 05/04/2026 18:04

I genuinely wish I had curly hair. My hair is as flat as a pancake but, when I wake up in the morning, it all sticks up as if I’ve stuck my finger in an electric socket 😱.

I have to do my hair every day, because it looks awful if I don’t. So having todo something different to it wouldn’t be a problem. I think I’ll talk to my hairdresser about a soft perm.

they stink though - I used to have them years ago.

You need to talk to your hair stylist as they might say that your expectations are not achievable ( unless you have a personal hairdresser at your service every day!).
My hair is naturally straight and fine but looks like your photo in OP when the hairdresser has done a curly blow with pins which I sleep in overnight.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 05/04/2026 18:42

What about rag rollers ? Put in your hair when damp and leave to dry

GinandGingerBeer · 05/04/2026 18:56

Heated rollers (look at babyliss) might be a good idea like a PP said.
If you were to use a heated tool, id go for a wand if you’re not used to using tools to style. as you just wrap your hair round the wand and there isn’t any skill involved like there is if you’re not used use straighteners to curl or a tong with a clamp.
Try a cone shaped one so the curl is fatter at the top to give body. (Mine is GhD)
or you could look at MD London set as he does one with 4 wand attachments.
(I have very hair gadget going!)
MD London avail at boots so you get boots points for it but check his website too for offers.

I think spiral perms are still a thing. I think that is what you would need to achieve that look hey.

Darklane · 09/04/2026 19:04

My hair is pure white & curly like that. I spend my life trying to get it smooth so I envy you!

FallenMadonnawiththeBadBoobies · 10/04/2026 09:43

Darklane 😂. We always want what we don't have don't we?

Anyway, thank you all for your suggestions. I have now spoken to my hairdresser and she says this will work for me. So, I'm going to have a perm. I'll talk to her about a spiral perm amibeingaknob. I'm fairly sure I had one of those back in the day.

GinandGingerBeer - thank you for your suggestion of a cone shaped wand. I think I shall pick one of those up today.

Not wanting to derail your thread OP but I’m curious about this all white hair that you and a PP mentioned. Is it coloured hair that transformed to white or just incredibly white blond hair you were born with? Or achieved another way? Please tell. For context I am a brunette fighting white grey and thinking of just letting go

FallenMadonnawiththeBadBoobies · 18/04/2026 14:15

I was a blonde back in the day, but the white hair (and it really is pure white) is inherited from my mum and, strangely, from both of her parents. My brother also has white hair. My kids are forewarned 😂.

I used to downlight it but stopped during Covid. I have talked to several hairdressers about dying it again and ever single one advised against it. Apparently, it’s a colour that lots of older women want. I could cope better with the colour if my hair wasn’t so fine.

I suspect that you won’t be able to achieve the look without dying it completely and then you would face the usual problems with roots showing.

did you have the perm?

FallenMadonnawiththeBadBoobies · 18/04/2026 17:23

Not yet. I’m waiting for my hairdresser to fit me in. She’s been poorly. I’ll let everyone know how it goes 😱.
