Affordable outfit ideas for home working and dog walking in my forties

Late 40s, work at home, do lots of dog walking. In an absolute rut with clothes. Have very few. On a budget. I need some ok outfits that are comfortable and don’t look so scruffy.

Any suggestions how to start planning what to buy??

Where do you live? I'm in your exact position, and I live in a village in the north east but with a huge city nearby if I fancy a change. I can dress smarter for dog walks if we walk somewhere non-muddy.

For the village walks, I need to wear leggings tucked into socks because of tick threats. Then a sturdy pair of Adidas or Nike trainers. Low cut as I sometimes break into a run if I'm just with my younger dog.

Under Armour tops which are breathable, and any sort of light sports jacket with removable hoods. Also a cross body bag for keys, phone and poop bags.

For WFH I wear smart leggings from H&M or Zara, t shirts from Zara, floppy jumpers if its colder. George at Asda are also really good for all the above.

You should probably be able to get absolutely everything you need from

@Bufftailed. Barrel leg trousers and a cropped shirt if you see clients face to face; or perhaps just the shirt and old trousers if you’re on a screen all day.

Presumably most of your budget goes on decent walking boots?

Thanks all. Am in a big city. Wear trainers rather than walking boots. Or DMs

i love the M and S wide legs. Maybe a trip to Uniqlo, Zara, M snd would sort me out. Since Covid, working from home, mid 40s v little confidence in what to buy. Got so little now no idea where to start. I am a curvy 12-14 in gpod physical shape…

If on a budget I would suggest looking on vinted. Some fantastic bargains to be had on there for new/nearly new items.

You’re right to suggest M&S wide leg joggers, I’ve got them on now, wear them to take kids to park etc. and feel pretty good in them. I feel like if I wear them with a really nice fleece it looks smart (I’ve got a gorgeous north face one). Otherwise I would say it’s not so much what you wear, I mean how extravagant can you be on a dog walk? I would think about the COLOUR of the clothes you wear. Ask ChatGPT what your colour pallet is and get yourself a nice thin spring jacket/waterproof in a nice bold colour, a couple of smart fleeces (mountain warehouse etc), some non-black leggings (think about what you can mix and match depending on your colour palette) and then I’d get some trainers that have a pop of colour too. For example I would wear navy leggings (or M&S joggers), grey and purple laced trainers, cream fleece and a green or blue thin jacket over the top. Sorry for waffling 🤣 don’t forget to always check Vinted for bargains! X
