I'm cold, nothing fits,I've got no money and I feel tired.

Neary 70, size 14, short , hour glass. Had it.

If I had a gauntlet I'd throw it down now.

I know. @bafta16But hopefully the weather will improve, the lights nights will kick in and you'll get out and about a bit and feel the sun on your face and things will feel a bit better Flowers

I totally commiserate; I’m a bit older, a bit fatter and life’s just smacked me around the head with a cancer diagnosis very likely tomorrow.
I have dug out my comfiest pyjamas, cuddly dressing gown and a hot water bottle 😁

Sending love and hope it’s not what you think. Xx

My mantra is wear nothing fitted or tight. Everything loose, elasticated trousers, tops a size bigger than I need, (even the kids are wearing oversized everything anyway!), plenty of mad jewellery, few if any patterns or florals, plain navy, dark grey, cream, tan, and black, mix n match. No granny cardigans or dresses. Good shoes/trainers, nice bag that fits everything you need, or a small leather backpack. Easy hairstyle, be that short or mid length. If not short, make it long enough to be able to pin up or back in hot weather or when you can't be arsed fixing it.

I'm lazy, but I look ok going out the front door. Not so much when putting out the bins though.

Agree, nothing tight, especially lower half. But how to find something acceptable that doesn't come from a Garden Centre!

What’s the address? I’m coming over in my PJS!

Shhhh,..... look at Shein Curve online. Even if you by conscience won't buy from them, the website will give you inspiration for things that might work for you that you can buy elsewhere.

I have some bits from there, mostly trousers and Summer tops, and they are great. I will get hit with a big stick now! I'm 68 BTW and all I want now is comfort and a non sack look. It can be done....

Yes let's set the bar at "non sack"

I've just watched an American lady suggesting a stretch pant for £270.

Has the American lady only got one leg for her pant.

user1471453601 · 31/03/2026 19:00

I'm 75 and recently bought a cashmere and silk dressing gown. It's the most beautiful thing I own 😍.

I just figured that if I'm going down the road (and I am miles down it now) of comfort I may as well go as glamourasly as I could.

it makes me feel as though I'm deliberately not getting dressed until lunch time. The truth, of course, is that often I cannot be bothered to get dressed.

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 31/03/2026 19:15

Goodness at 70 you can defo want to look and feel comfy but to let it get to you like this isn’t great. There are loads of clothes out there that are comfy and look good. Honestly no one’s looking at any of us really anyway. Go live the rest of your life. Just people some wide leg trousers on and a sweatshirt and enjoy.

She appeared to be in fine fettle. She did have a pink lip though.

Staying at home wrapped up in a dressing gown forever sounds wonderful.

minnowonthesay · 31/03/2026 20:20

Try co ords @bafta16 after all, they are just outdoor pyjamas!!! Vest tops to wear underneath (Tesco do a great smoothing seam free one that’s also warm). Trainers work well with them too, so find a comfy pair. I know up thread it says no patterns, no florals but I do like the Zara satiny shirts (cheap on Vinted) with jeans or wide leg trousers. Earrings, wear earrings too. Hope you feel better soon, it’s hard when you feel so tired, sometimes you do just have to let it wash over you and wait for brighter days.

Ask AI for some clothing suggestions that are comfy and see what it says. Then Vinted is the answer. Make some low bids, you can always relist things if they aren't right. Hope you feel brighter soon.

Augustus40 · 01/04/2026 07:16

Have a nice bath and listen to LBC radio.

MissyB1 · 01/04/2026 07:42

As someone who has realised I now live in pyjamas, or joggers and long t shirt (basically my daytime pyjamas), I hear you!

I’m thinking to help break out of this for summer, loose linen trousers with a drawstring waist and some linen mix t shirts or long sleeve shirt. Definitely try Vinted.

GloiredeDijon · 01/04/2026 07:48

Am I missing something?
Size 14 (do you mean UK size?) with an hourglass shape is a great figure which is easy to dress.
Otherwise I love a dressing gown day. Going outside is overrated.

What a lovely, helpful post. I think I may have forgotten to say the budget is zero.

Size 14 on a short fat thing is not so great. Yes, no more going outside for me.

I feel your pain, add in 34H boobs and it's hopeless. Save up for a nice dressing gown, check out Vinted. Add wine.

minnowonthesay · 01/04/2026 09:15

You’ve probably done this @bafta16but call Age UK 08000556112 - you should not be cold and have no money. I’m assuming you’re on a state pension but there are all sorts of top ups to help you, they will help you to get what you are due.

PinsAndThrums · 01/04/2026 09:49

If you're going to stay at home in your dressing gown I'd shell out for a couple of packets of seeds (Nasturtiums and Calendula are both pretty foolproof and usually grow fast enough to survive the greedy slugs) so that come summer you have something pretty to look at. If you'd rather have something tasty to eat, now's the perfect time to buy strawberry plants, but for that we're talking 20 quid.

(As it happens, you can eat Calendula petals and the leaves, flowers and seeds of Nasturtiums, but the strawberries would be more likely to lure me outside...)

M&S for trousers. Linen drawstring wide legs, peg legs or straight in summer. Navy jersey wide legs in spring and autumn, cords or jeans in winter. Also Uniqlo. I've not bought from them, but also think Halara looks promising.

Fitted stretch tees from Primark underneath, with a loose blouse, tunic or shirt on top which has some interest so you don't feel like a beige nana from 1970s. Block colour shirts, broderie anglaise or embroidery. Go for interesting textures - linen, silk, satin.

My recent tops are from Zara (the fit is rubbish - they don't have good pattern cutters, but the fabrics and detailing are fresh and fashionable); White Stuff (really good at the moment, not all jersey print mid-thigh tunics, though at 70, if they feel good, wear them!) and local boutiques that do embroidered blouses quite cheaply.
