Spring workwear inspiration - fed up of rubbish quality!

I'm looking for some inspiration for some new spring workwear, as I'm fed up of the quality of some of things I have in my wardrobe (e.g. recent buys from M&S with polyester that have gone funny after one wash). I'm early 30s, tall and a size 10-12 and my style is generally trousers and a nice shirt/blouse or a jumper, or a midi dress. My office is smart/casual so I'm lucky that I can dress across a spectrum of "workwear" and don't need to worry about being overly formal. So if you've seen anything lovely that you think would work for spring workwear then please share - I'm not too fussed about budget, happy to spend more for quality pieces that will last!

I've just got some wide leg chinos from M&S which look lovely on, I hope they wash well. Following to hear about what tops people are wearing. I'm starting to regret my decision in the late 2000's to stop ironing as I love the look of a crisp shirt but not sure I can go back.

I find Cos quality to be excellent, also certain things from Uniqlo - they’re brilliant for basics.

i would avoid buying polyester wherever possible (I know that’s not as easy as it used to be).

Any of these:

Aime London
Community Clothing
Cos
The Frankie Shop
Margaret Howell
Our Legacy
YMC

Following, I went shopping last weekend looking for work clothes, well any clothes really, and could have cried!

A couple of brands that may or may not suit your style but are good quality - Justine Tabak - some of their dresses are perhaps a bit floral for the office but the plains and the checked and striped linen are suitable for work. They buy from small Irish linen mills and the fabric is really good.

At Last - again a small business with a range of styles from plain shirts to patterned cotton that might be less office appropriate. everything I have from here has washed well. If you like a midi dress then the cord Chelsea is lovely and office appropriate.

Thank you! I'm already a big fan of Uniqlo but I haven't tried Cos before. It's so tricky with polyester, I want to avoid it but it seems to be in everything nowadays (particularly M&S knitwear which is frustrating....argh!)

I've had the same issue so trying to buy all natural fibes. So far I have two cotton shirts from Aspiga, linen wide leg trousers from Boden, a cotton midi dress from Seasalt, a linen skirt from Poetry from last year .
Things are horrendously expensive.

I'd like a couple of cotton short sleeve cardigans that I can wear over vest tops and trousers but struggling to find those.

ArwenUndomniel · 29/03/2026 09:27

I've found some 100% cotton things in H&M and Mango recently but then they're so see-through that you might as well not bother and just go around in your bra. It's a real problem at the moment. If I buy a shirt or top for spring or summer I don't want to have to wear another top under it!

@Londonmummy66 - while I rage against ageism (usually directed at anyone over 40) on this board, I honestly, honestly cannot imagine my early thirties self considering Justine Tabak, or At Last!

ThingsBeingVarious · 29/03/2026 09:45

Have you looked at Plumo or Toast? If I could afford it I'd probably wear entirely Plumo, everything is beautifully made and top quality, unfortunately I have to settle for 2 or 3 pieces a year. Toast may have more office appropriate clothes.

Patra silk use 100% natural fibres

Edited

My 22 year old daughter has been known to nick stuff out of my wardrobe from both and the fairisle jumpers are very on trend.

Reiss or Me+Em

Tbf fair isle jumpers are everywhere. (Though my professional work wardrobe was ultra-formal so I couldn’t have worn them there.) But I was thinking more of the dresses - which simply wouldn’t have been on my radar. (I often recommend Justine Tabak, but still, decades from my thirties, they’re not really me.)
