Recommendation s for where ( on earth!) to shop! Please!
I am in early 60 s.
size 8 bust 30 d. Waist 27 . Hips 35 - so no idea of body type !
just above five foot.
ive worn true vintage much of my life and now its harder to find( 50s 70 s mainly)
Love good quality and colour but also lioe monochrome.
I have a short torso and longer legs and so tops that i cant tuck in come to hip length and look frumpy . i love the ,cos vibe - but nothing fits and is too square and boxy on me.
i love good quality clothes in natural materials but ironically what fits me best is a cheap jumpsuit from sainsburys! Expensive trousers are too long in the crotch and leg , although jigsaw cords a size down fit .
my style is
1950 shape dresses- which i get from palava or vintage fairs
i really suit 70 s style jumpsuits
dungarees
flares with a tight top
70 s vibe clothes
wide trousers
But if i put a baggy top with a baggy trousers i lool like a little ball as i am all sticking out fabric so I need definition I think.
I think my style may be maximumalist in that i like one dramatic item in an outfit? But i do also like white jeans and a black top.!
we have a fantastic boutique with a buy less buy bwtter ethos and not one item suits me - tho they are well made eclectic beautiful beautiful clothes that lool good on a lomg lean shape but hit all the wrong places on me !
if there is anyone on here who is a stylist and fancies giving advice 8d be grateful!
ps my legs are. Not not my strong point at all!

How is Boden on you? A lot of their prints are bright, vintage style and they have a petite range which might fit for trousers?

What are you looking to buy and what is your budget?

Ok I'm late 60s and have also worn vintage most of my life although it sounds like we wear different things. I'm 5'3 and generally size 8-10 but not particularly interested in dressing for my body shape (tried it and didn't get on with it).

I mostly wear a mix of vintage and modern, e.g.
1940s/50s/60s jackets. Yes they're getting hard to find but I'm still wearing some I've had 30+ years - they're built to last! I have very narrow shoulders so they fit better than contemporary ones, even when the design is similar. I usually team with wide leg jeans or ankle length culottes.
The same jeans/culottes with a loose fitting sweater-vest (often mens') over either a T shirt or cotton shirt. Or if I'm scrubbing up, with a silk shirt.
Sometimes I swap the jeans or culottes for either a full 'new look' style skirt (but modern) or a straight-ish midi skirt (modern) or a pleated wool 'Barbara Woodhouse' skirt (vintage)

I rarely wear dresses as they don't fit properly top and bottom. Same with jumpsuits - wear the Sainsbury's one, I'm very jealous!

Like you, I mostly get my vintage things from fairs, plus we have a couple of charity shops with vintage rails. (I'm on very good terms with them!) More recently I've bought a couple of jackets from Ebay.

A lot of my modern clothes are second hand. I particularly like Margaret Howell and some Toast (I keep an eye on their Reworn site which is more reasonably priced than Vinted plus you can return). Also John Smedley for knitwear. But otherwise I'm not loyal to any label

At the moment, if I'm buying new, it tends to be Uniqlo - I like some of their collabs, especially the C range. Also buy bits from M&S and I still have a soft spot for H&M, even though the quality's gone to the dogs.

I'm not sure how helpful this will be as we like different things but I didn't like to ignore a fellow vintage fan!

I’m a similar age and body type to you I think. With a largish bust and high waist I have to be careful or I get drowned in fabric. I like to shop at Sézane (although the current collection doesn’t grab me) and Rouje who have vintage inspired clothes. Rouje is expensive (those damn import duties) but the pieces I have from them are my favourite clothes. Sézane have had more of a seventies vibe to their previous collections so there should still be some pieces that might appeal. I love the silk Chlo blouse.

Itsnouse · 27/03/2026 18:14

Word of warning Sézane trousers are very long so you will need to have them taken up a lot

No idea if any of this would appeal, but if you can wear Palava you can probably wear:

Every single thing is incredibly well made. (They obsess over the provenance and craft of fabrics.) But it’s the scale of their clothing that’s crucial; it certainly isn’t labelled as petite but as a broad shouldered woman of just under 5’3 I found their beautiful coats just too narrow and shorter than I would want. So they would probably fit you perfectly. Scroll through all the photos of a garment to see them modelled on a real person.
