River Island

I can't imagine their target demographic would be thrilled about that and I'm certainly not a young or edgy dresser, but atm I'm finding they're OK quality for the price and and have wearable items that are a bit more interesting than e.g. M&S or Next.

I'm definitely no style expert but I've had a few nice things from them, from a long dress for a black tie do at Christmas to jeans, a nice suede look bomber jacket, and now some summer shell tops and light trousers.

I thought I got too old for River Island in about 1993 🤣

Haven’t been in a River Island for years. In my teens and 20s I thought it was massively chavy. Maybe they’ve changed.

I agree. It’s one of the places where you can still - if you’re selective - buy natural fabrics - especially summer cotton - that’s not made in China. Lots of cotton from commonwealth countries

The designs are great - often good and a little different. Yes, there’s the usual nylon-y polyester acrylic rubbish, but alongside that some real gems.

Not sure where my nearest RI is and haven't shopped there since I was a teen.
I have got some bits from Next recently (Inc the kids section!).
Mainly been shopping from Primark, Disturbia and Killstar though. I'm 53 but it honestly never occurs to me to think about wether I'm too old for something, it's just if i like the look of it or not!

In my experience the shops are more geared towards youth
online has a wider choice

Mine is urban outfitters and im
not much younger than you. Teenage daughter loves it and steals my (acceptable) clothes often.

Laiste · 29/03/2026 20:37

Oooooh i used to love the RI bags and purses in the late 90s and naughties!

Now i can afford them i can't be arsed 🤣

MrsM2025 · 29/03/2026 21:02

I was in Tiver Island recently and was the youngest woman there shopping- I’m 54!!!!

Cyclingmummy1 · 29/03/2026 21:04

RI jeans are great!

weareallqueens · 30/03/2026 15:22

Damn you OP. After seeing this thread last night, instead of walking past RI today I popped in - and ended up buying a top that I probably don’t need. They do blue light discount too.

Jk987 · 30/03/2026 15:26

Their straight stretch jeans are amazing. Some good tops for a night out too.

So true. Most of my high st clothing shops are names Ive never heard of selling tiny crop tops, skin tight co ords and weeny shorts.
I refuse to even enter a shop that considers a size 14 a large!!😆

This is me with sleep. When kids woke up at crack of dawn I used to beg for sleep. Now my menopausal 4 hours a night is completely wasted 😂

It's really hard for me to find much that I like. But Cos is the shop I go back to most often.

corblimeyguvnr · 03/04/2026 12:51

I've looked at RI and loving their " new" Boho vibes tops. Might have to have a look in store.

Oh funny, I mostly shop at Peacocks, Kill Star, Disturbia and Hell Bunny 😃🖤🌙

RI have an outlet store on Ebay (almost want to keep this to myself 😆) I just found it today and spent under £70, but got loads of stuff for my DS. Also, a pair of printed summer jeans for me. I'll report back when they come.

Empress13 · 03/04/2026 21:08

I think RI are quite pricey tbh

Thanks. I've just made an order.
