Hi, these were very expensive Nike trainers given as a gift. Its a 10 whereas im an 8. I also have had plantar in the past so does anyone have any advice how to make these wearable? Do very thick insoles exist even? They cannot be returned and I really want to wear them!

Thick socks or two pairs, newspaper in the toes was the old way when no one had shoes to fit, probably cut some foam up or something more modern. Insoles don't really make them smaller just more shallow that may or may not help, heel pads.

RampantIvy · 23/03/2026 06:45

Who buys the wrong sized footwear for someone as a gift?

JustChillin70 · 23/03/2026 06:45

Try toe inserts from Amazon but would think shoes two sizes too big would give somewhat of a clown shoe effect.

GeorgeMichaelsMicStand · 23/03/2026 07:20

Sell them on Vinted then buy a pair that fit. Who wears shoes 2 sizes too big? I’m all for oversized but…..

UnderstatedChaos · 23/03/2026 07:25

You'll be falling over your feet, you need to sell them and buy and correct size. Who on earth buys trainers for someone as a gift without letting them try them on? I know my size but can't just order trainers online, I'm different sizes even in the same brand depending on the fit.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 23/03/2026 07:25

Sheepskin insoles from Celtic and co are the thickest ones, but will squash down in time. Two sizes is probably too big an adjustment to be good for anything except very occasional wear.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 23/03/2026 07:29

It might not be 2 sizes. I find that Nike come up small. I’m an 8.5, but a 9.5 or 10 in Nike (the UK size on the label). You cab adjust for a half size/size with volume reducing insoles and heel grips. DH used to work in outdoor retail and boot fitting was his expertise! Quite often broad British feet would need to go up a size to fit narrow Italian boots.

Or tell the person who gave them you and see if you can return for smaller, but unless you’re familiar with Nike, and that style, don’t assume you’ll be an 8.

10namechangeslater · 23/03/2026 07:31

Um you can’t you’ll look like a clown

Wickedlittledancer · 23/03/2026 07:34

I mean you can pad them out with loads of socks and tissue but jeez you will look like you’ve clown feet and be really uncomfortable

Mumof1andacat · 23/03/2026 07:36

Sell them on Ebay or vinted

Ginmonkeyagain · 23/03/2026 08:03

Don't wear wrong size shoes, you'll end up hurting yourself. Sell them and buy some the right size.

@RampantIvy its more they bought for themselves and was too small so they gave to me. They are lovely but big though not crazy big.

Sell them. Honestly you’re just going to create problems for yourself if you try to wear them.

dogonthefloor · 23/03/2026 11:00

You don't wear them - they're two sizes too big! Don't be crazy. Sell them

Hoppinggreen · 23/03/2026 11:02

A big part of wearing trainers is comfort, so don't wear them

Wickedlittledancer · 23/03/2026 11:04

He or she may not be able to sell them as they are a gift and likely given on the understanding they will be worn.

op you could ask the person if it’s ok to sell, but I’m guessing they may say they’d do that, but I’d not be wearing shoes two sizes too big for you.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 23/03/2026 11:10

You can't wear shoes 2 sizes too big!

Hairhelpasap · 23/03/2026 11:35

If you can’t return, you could possibly exchange them.
If not you could sell them at a decent price online if they’re in new condition, then buy a pair in the right size. Maybe not straight away, but if I’ve been patient I’ve found almost everything I’ve wanted on Ebay/vinted. I once sold an Allsaints leather jacket that was too big and bought another brand new one with the proceeds.

If the person who gave them to you originally bought them for themself, why didn't they simply return the shoes themself?

Assuming the shoes were bought online and that the purchaser was in the UK (or EU) they had (or perhaps still have) 14 days in which to cancel the contract for a full refund and a further 14 days in which to return the shoes.

And if they didn't buy online but instore, WTF buys shoes instore that are too small? At least buying shoes too big is understandable, but too small?

If it can still be cancelled for a full refund tell them to cancel it.

RampantIvy · 23/03/2026 17:19

I agree @Manxexile

This is why I never buy shoes online. I always shop in real shops and try on many pairs before I buy footwear.

@HellybellyMelly I would sell the shoes or give them back to the person who gave them to you.

Wow you’ve never been so busy you missed fhe deadline to return something,

they could also be bought from somewhere like temu etc where return is problematic.

soontobeamama · 23/03/2026 17:29

Just sell them and buy the right size instead, two sizes bigger is too much of a difference to comfortably wear. You could get insoles etc, but it seems crazy to put up with them when they are so much bigger.

liquoriceallsortfamily · 24/03/2026 00:28

Go to primark. They do toe cushion inserts for the big shoes and also by the thick cushion insoles. Both about £2 each .
