Looking for lighter full coverage foundation options for ageing skin and fine lines

Been using the same max factor foundation for years, now with ageing skin I am finding it a little heavy. I do like a full coverage but with less spots these days need something a bit lighter. Have a few fine lines starting to appear. Any recommendations?

I think full coverage foundation does settle in fine lines just due to its nature! I pair a good concealer (nars creamy radiant / soft matte in the pots) with a lightweight all over foundation (glossier skin tint / nars light reflecting etc) and a good powder (huda beauty / Laura Mercier) and I find that helps with the fine lines! The concealer covers any bits that need more coverage without settling in lines, the light foundation gives a good all over glow and setting properly with the powders again helps with the lines.

I've just started using DCYPHER - you take a photo of your bare face, they calculate the colour and send it to you! So simple, great match and really nice coverage - I went for medium, natural coverage and it lasts all day without caking in lines 😊

I really rate L’Oréal True Match as its lightweight but decent coverage. I’m 54 and find it doesn’t accentuate fine lines.

I really like Estée Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue right now, the right amount of coverage without looking too heavy.

I’m using sculpted by Aimee cream cushion foundation. It’s very light but buildable & easy to touch up.

I’ve been using Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser for a few years now, I really like it, it’s so light yet buildable. For something more cost effective I was pleasantly surprised at L’Oréal Magic BB cream, a slightly heavier coverage, but still not as heavy as a foundation.

Thank you all, I shall check a few of those out. Good to get a steer in an attempt to save wasting money trying to find the one!

I’ve started using No 7 Serum foundation recently and it’s really nice, and very reasonably priced too.

Erborian CC Cream is brilliant. You can get on Amazon.

APurplePanda · 22/03/2026 18:54

i love the Charlotte Tillbury foundation. im 40, i use less than half a pump or 1 full pump if i want more coverage. i also like the Huda Beauty Faux Filter. its lightweight too

hobbledyhoy · 22/03/2026 21:21

nars light reflecting foundation is great. Good coverage but thick and do doesn’t settle into fine lines

Minxyjinx · 22/03/2026 21:26

IT cosmetics cc cream it has spf too. Ive tried erborian which is great but found the IT Cosmetics had much better coverage (im 47)

I have the same issue with foundation and I've just recently started wearing this. I absolutely LOVE it. It's so light but has really decent coverage. It glides on like silk, is so easy to apply and blend with no streaks or caking or sitting in my wrinkles. I find it gives good coverage while still appearing light and dewy.

Hi OP. Ingredient-wise you can look for water-based or serum-foundation hybrid formula where hyaluronic acid and glycerin are high up in the ingredient list as those keep the skin plump and hydrated throughout the day. Avoid formulas with heavy silicones like dimethicone listed as a primary ingredient because while they give a smooth initial finish, they tend to settle into fine lines & crease over time. Ingredients in the formula like peptides, niacinamide, or vitamin C are worth looking for too. A buildable medium coverage formula with a natural or satin finish tends to sit much more comfortably on mature skin.
