I don’t know how to dress for spring/autumn

I’m fine in hot or cold weather but in between weather is difficult for me and I end up being too hot or too cold.

I know layers is the answer but although I’m great at layers in winter where the under layers are hidden I don’t seem to be able to do layers where the inner layers can become outer layers.

On Thursday I wore jeans and doc martens with a heat tech top, t shirt and cardigan. This was ok most of the day inside at work but when I went outside in the sun at lunch and to pick the kids up and take them to clubs after school I was hot but it looked silly without the cardigan and my thermals on show under my t-shirt. And my feet got hot. So yesterday I wore a vest instead of heat-tech under my tshirt and trainers instead of boots and spent the whole day with freezing arms and ankles.

I obviously need to approach my layers in a different way at this time of year but I don’t know how! Not helped by mostly wearing dresses but again they’re fine in summer with bare legs and winter with layers and tights but this weather suits neither tights nor bare legs! Suggestions please.

Long sleeved tops?

I usually wear a three quarter length sleeve teashirt and a thick cardigan or zip front hoodie. Thats generally enough.
I do wear tights until May, thick ones in winter. Then a lighter denier this time of year.

Thanks. I’ll look for some long sleeved T-shirts, that would work with reversing the layers.
Genuinely hadn’t thought about thinner tights so thanks for that too!

I really feel the cold and it makes me miserable so I need enough layers to feel warm when it’s chilly but be able to remove some when the sun comes out.

In this sort of weather I usually wear jeans, a long sleeved breton top or a 3/4 black or navy one, and a cardigan or jumper to take off when too warm. I usually wear cashmere ones because they are light (expensive but last ages). And trainers. I don’t really like T shirts unless really hot hence the long sleeves but cotton.

I usually wear long sleeve top or tunic with cardigan and trousers/leggings.

this year I’ve also been wearing nearly on repeat three quarter sleeve plain and Breton tops, wide leg jeans and a zip up hoodie. Not very stylish but ok for the weather.
