Under eye circles, getting me down!

Supercircles · 16/03/2026 20:40

Im in my early 40s and generally feel like I look old and tired most days but it’s mainly noticeable around my eyes.
Any suggestions for under eye dark circles apart from caffeine creams and hydrating well?
Im feeling very down about myself at the moment so please be kind!

Have you ever tried taking antihistamines?

Nellynoo182 · 16/03/2026 20:52

I also struggle with this. The only thing that really helps or makes me feel better about myself is a good concealer. I use Tarte tape shape and it’s amazing. I normally get it from QVC.

I think it’s probably more noticeable to you than anyone else, but that’s not what you asked. I haven’t found anything miraculous I’m afraid, but I use a colour correct to make them less noticeable. If you have actual bags/ puffiness then I think it’s most likely water retention, which you can help with low caffeine, salt and sugar diets but mine is hereditary so there’s an element of learning to accept them as part of my face. I found that acceptance came with my 40s alongside the eye bags, tiredness and weight gain 🤣

I am trying the ROC eye retinol cream. I read somewhere that is you improve the skin itself, which is what retinol is meant to do, then the under eye area improves. I haven't been doing it long enough to know if it's working but I think it is improving things. I have tried every eye cream you can think of.

By the way your under eyes don't look that bad to me.

Coconutter24 · 16/03/2026 21:03

Have you tried no mascara on bottom lashes? I feel like I also have circles and tbh no creams help but I do find no mascara helps

Cocktailsandcheese · 16/03/2026 21:07

Maybe it's just good lighting in the photo but I definitely wouldn't say you have dark circles...you should see mine!!
I haven't found any miracles yet and I've been searching for years...I'm really hoping there will be a laser treatment or similar that can permanently (or semi permanently) improve them. Until then I have tried every colour correcting and light reflecting concealer out there, but still haven't found one that lasts all day and doesn't crease or make the wrinkles around my eyes more prominent. It's like searching for the holy grail! I'm following to see if others have any recommendations.

They really aren’t that bad. Try to be kinder to yourself. Flowers

@Cocktailsandcheese have you tried Estée Lauder skin cealer? That’s the best I’ve tried, it’s melts right in and doesn’t settle in my fine lines. I don’t choose a lighter shade anymore as I think it draws attention, I use my regular foundation shade as close a match as I can.

Ooh this is one I haven't tried! Will order it immediately, thank you! Anything's worth a try.

Hi OP. Under-eye circles are often caused by a combination of things like thin skin showing blood vessels underneath, loss of volume with age, shadows from the eye socket structure, and sometimes actual pigmentation. For ingredients that can help, look for eye creams with caffeine which temporarily constricts blood vessels and reduces that purple-blue tone, vitamin K which helps with blood vessel appearance, niacinamide for brightening and strengthening the thin skin, and peptides like haloxyl or eyeliss that target puffiness and darkness. Hyaluronic acid and ceramides won't fix darkness but they'll plump and hydrate which makes the area look less hollow and shadowy. Hope this helps.

I think a facial fake tan helps - Tan Luxe is excellent, comes in two colours. I think warming up the rest of your face makes them less noticeable.

I agree with this. It doesn't hide the dark circles, but the contrast is less than with pale skin.

I also agree to avoid concealer in a lighter shade. If anything, a slightly darker shade than on the rest of your face works better. Similar principle to a corrector I suppose.

I don't think any cream works.

I've found a couple of concealers I like and I've had filler twice, but nothing really works :(

Mine are much worse than yours OP.

Janey90 · 18/03/2026 16:11

Pink concealer/corrector has been a game changer for me. I use this instead of 'normal' concealer now, as my dark circles need to be lightened, then they don't need covering up

PrincessHoneysuckle · 18/03/2026 20:20

Tear trough filler could help
