Looking stylish in the Arctic

Please help - we are off to Lapland on a non-skiing break. I need some stylish but practical layers and outer wear, and would like to look more Bond Babe than Michelin man, whilst keeping warm. Budget is around £1500 for everything including boots and gloves.

Will ski wear be warm enough for more sedentary activities?

Try Norwegian skiing brands as they are technically the best IMO for cold. They also do fine wool jumpers that you can layer with. Base layers are the most important thing in the really extreme cold of Lapland so go for merino wool rather than any synthetic materials. Boots lined with sheepskin are good, particularly the innersoles. You can even buy merino wool inner soles on Amazon. Use wool socks rather than fleece.

I would drop the idea of stylish and focus on functional if you want to look like you belong (I’m Swedish and I think I know what I’m talking about). Wool layers and functional jackets and trousers will be fine. Depending on where you are going it might be quite warm already (around 0, not less than -10) so I would just wear my hiking trousers and my old Övik jumper. If you plan some more close to the ground activities like sledging with huskies you will be given waterproof overalls in most places.

@CortieTat - thank you. I have no wish to look like a local, but thank you for your thoughts.

@Pineneedlesincarpet thank you. I will see what merino base layers I can find.

I suspect trousers / jacket will be easier than a one piece? Especially with my menopausal bladder!

Perfect moment ski wear

OP ..yes..having a menopausal bladder myself I do enjoy the freedom of a pair of pull down trousers....

I also have a neoprene wool jumper that is really useful when it's not utterly freezing and snowing but you want to stay warm. Mine is Norwear but I can only see vintage ones online so I wonder if they are no longer stocked by that particular brand. Sorry..that's not hugely helpful. But if you can get something like that, it stops windchill but isn't as bulky as a coat and as it is wool it looks nice.
