Recommendations for trendy clothes for 14 year old boys

I have a 14 year old son who is on the spectrum and want to get him the same sort of clothes as other people his age so that he is confident and blends in. He is about five foot seven and well built.

Do any of you who have boys that age know where to buy clothes for his age group and what to get?

Don’t refer to school peers as he doesn’t really have any at the moment. This is a separate concern I need to deal with.

Most 14 year old boys are not style icons imo. My son and his friends wear a lot of dark colours and a lot of sports gear. Google Nike Tech Fleece. That sort of thing. They wear some branded stuff and some unbranded but that sort of look.

TheTortiePuffinNeedsHerBreakfast · 15/03/2026 05:41

My 14 year old DS shops in Hollister and H&M. Baggy jeans and cargo pants seem to be popular, with a plain t shirt and a hoodie. He buys Stussy t shirts on Vinted (these are pricey new).

Ilovethewild · 15/03/2026 05:49

My ASD 14yr old lives in ripped jeans or Nike trousers and Nike tops. Sensory needs around clothes, football/sports tops/quick dry tops are his favourite. He likes the feel so wears nothing else.

black tends to a common flavour

hoodies

jd sports is our go to shop.

Treacling · 15/03/2026 05:49

It depends what he is into. Jeans and metal gig T-shirts (gigs that he’s attended). He wears sports wear for sports clubs or when competing at sport not as general day wear. But sports wear is popular with others his age. Hoody’s from gigs.

DC trainers, DMs. Jeans from anywhere where the waist fits - Next do ones that fit him well as the waist is adjustable. Cargo trousers.

Hello OP, I have a 13yr old DS who is 5ft9 and starting to get more fashion conscious. Recently I've bought him some of the baggier style jeans from H&M, Vans hoodie and trainers, more of a slim fitting tshirt.

Other places to try for teenage boys - zara, river island, pull & bear, and Mango

He still wears sports brand tshirts from sports direct such as under armour & nike.

Fuckitydoodah · 15/03/2026 05:53

Cargo style trousers have also gone down well. He has these https://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1290171001.html

Aslighthead · 15/03/2026 06:15

Has he expressed any interest in particular brands?

Dancingtimesquare · 15/03/2026 06:34

What do the boys the same age wear? I find with boys it depends on where you live as to what’s worn. When DS was that age it was joggers, hoodies and trainers. Mostly Nike, some adidas etc. trainers were air force 1s. May be an occasional pair of jeans but it was almost uniform when his friends were here or I picked him up. They grow out of it by 16 or so. There is still a lot of that casual style of clothing but they then moved on to jeans, designer t shirts and jumpers and aftershave!

exdxb · 15/03/2026 06:58

As above my 14yo DS wears the exact same boring combinations of black/navy trackies, T-shirts, hoodies and trainers in a combination of Nike, Adidas and primark/h&m/supermarket plain. I find it so dull would love to see him in jeans and anything with colour but letting him blend in as he wishes, as remember how important that feels at his age. His football kits are welcome splashes of bright colour when playing or watching.

Fasterthan40 · 15/03/2026 07:07

Ha, can see everyone else’s boys wear pretty much the same. Here it’s Nike combats or north face joggers, underarmour or Nike T shirts and holiister for hoodies/shackets. Awkward age but I think your goal of blending in is easily done clothing wise with the labels we have all mentioned and muted colours. Black, grey, navy, khaki and occasional white tshirt for relief. School bag and coat wise: black nike/north face/ underarmour/sondico I hope that it all improves for your son soon.

Lovingbooks · 15/03/2026 07:08

My 14 year old lives in cargo pants from H&M (black, green or cream) those warm cotton shorts for summer. All darker colours and range of primark T-shirts not too loud or childish (his preference). Nike or adidas trainers black with white stripe. He loves a hoody navy or blue Super Dry we found is classic and comfort.

Trendy clothes depend on what area you are from op, as I know from previous threads on here they all wear different brands dependant on area. Some people say brands that I know my son of the same age wouldnt wear and isn't in fashion here and vice versa as well. If you say your rough area youl get trends more specific to your area that are in fashion just now.

ThroughTheRedDoor · 15/03/2026 07:14

Take him to H&M/fashiony shop to see what he likes. Build from there?

NancyMeyers · 15/03/2026 07:35

River Island does lovely stuff. Boxy t shirts, wide leg joggers, hoodies. Boohoo man does the odd thing that can be great. If he's not interested in fashion, I'd go with napajiri and nike in dark colours.

Oneborneverydecade · 15/03/2026 07:50

Like others have mentioned my 14yo DS wears baggy jeans or cargo trousers with logo t-shirts, a workwear/chore jacket and Vans.
We tend to shop in Zara and ASOS, occasionally Uniqlo.

His older brother is sporty and would've worn purely tracksuit bottoms and t-shirts with Nike trainers. He liked Nike and the brand with Alcatraz across the groin?!

Good luck OP

Also, boys hairstyles seem very important in my area. Perms and highlights are very popular, but that might be a step too far if your DS isn't feeling confident. But going to a good barbers wo can suggest something modern could help. There's all sorts of things to explore, eg burst fade etc.

Are fades still in? My 14 yr old has outgrown his fade stage ( literally) and it's all wolf cuts and mod cuts round here.
Definitely second the baggy jeans and t shirts though. Joggers have also been consigned to the out of fashion charity bag.

antipodeansun · 15/03/2026 09:09

Mostly Zara and H&M, occasionally sports brands for my 12 year old. Football jerseys, baggy jeans, baggy shorts.
He is very slim but reasonably tall. Zara's cuts seem to work well for his build.

I'm in the sticks, so sounds as if you're more ahead of the curve in your area. I'm sure wolf cuts and mod cuts will be making their way here in the next few months 😆

I live in the " forgotten corner" of Cornwall . I think DS has ideas above his geographical location. 🤣. Several of his friends are growing their hair out to catch up.

Fasterthan40 · 15/03/2026 09:43

Good point about haircuts. I don’t think you need really modish but maybe just heavier on top, less at sides and then some hair powder to give texture.

TartanMammy · 15/03/2026 09:48

Every teenage boy here seems to be wearing a grey or black representat hoodie. You probably couldn't go wrong with one of those.

My ds is just getting into baggy jeans phase but he'll still wear Nike joggers too or The North Face too. Very dependent on area and their clan!

drspouse · 15/03/2026 09:52

My DS is similar but he likes bright colours.. Current favourites are hoodies from H&M that look like they've had paint splashed at them. His school doesn't do uniform but apparently he's the only one in bright colours apart from a couple of girls in pink.
I've managed to get him into elastic waist chinos, he may be moving to a school with uniform so we need to move gradually towards smarter clothes.

defoneedanamechange · 15/03/2026 09:52

Asda George do an adaptive clothing range if he struggles with sensory clothing issues or difficulties with zips etc

Lemonjuicegums · 15/03/2026 10:00

Mine is a bit older and so moved away from the sports brands a bit - still a focus on comfy and plain and dark though. Uniqlo for joggers and sweatshirts, pull and bear and cotton on for plain tshirts and hoodies with quite a bit of h&m too. Levis and uniqlo for jeans. Adidas leather trainers.
