Ideas for summer in Florida!

MammaJamma1 · 13/03/2026 18:00

Would love some help with a trip to the florida theme parks in peak summer this year. I'm OK for shoes, but struggling for outfits. I'm size 12/14 and an apple shape. High street budget really.

Have picked up some sports gear, sweat wicking tops, capri sports leggings etc. is this along the right lines? I know I'm not going to be particularly stylish but don't want to look completely scruffy and yes I know it's going to be surface of the sun heat! Any help would be appreciated.

Have you already booked ?

Fends · 13/03/2026 22:13

What has that got to do with her outfits?! Weird.

Vests, comfortable shorts and sandals or trainers. And a hat! Job done 👍

KickboxingWanker · 13/03/2026 22:20

Comfortable waterproof shoes make sure you wear them in.
poncho/rain jacket - expect a lot of rain in the afternoons these don’t usually last long but are heavy downpours.
I prefer a loose cotton/linen dress to shorts T-shirt as find dresses keep me cooler.
Have a lovely time

ella455 · 13/03/2026 22:33

Why do you need sports gear and leggings (except for gym?) it’s super hot and humid in summer in fl so leggings wouldn’t be pleasant. I would go with shorts, summer dresses and short sleeve tops from natural fibers

ella455 · 13/03/2026 22:34

That said also do bring a couple of cardigans as AC is very strong in all the indoor places

Parker231 · 13/03/2026 22:38

If you’re going in the height of summer you will need loose T-shirts and shorts. You’ll roast in sports gear or leggings. The summer humidity is a killer so be prepared for storms and daily heavy downpours. The thunderstorms are pretty amazing.

ForAmusedHazelQuoter · 13/03/2026 23:50

I wore comfy shorts, sandals with cushioned soles and then lots of cotton tops that coordinated with the shorts plus a couple of cross body bags.
I also had a few cotton dresses for the evening.

Buy Bermuda shorts and large t-shirts, waterproof/ trekking sandals, and a bum bag for the park. A poly cotton mix is a good bet as it dries faster than 100% cotton if you get caught in a downpour.

Get good, cheap sunglasses and a solid case to put them in. Two or three baseball hats would be great to keep the sun off your face. The hats will end up soaked, so get more then one to allow then to dry out between outings.

Buy 70spf sunscreen. Banana Boat is a good, cheap brand. Don't forget to coat the tops of your feet with sunscreen.

Don't worry how you'll look. Everyone will be a sweaty mess.

For restaurants, bring a mid weight cotton cardigan for over your shirts and t-shirts. Maybe a loose linen A-line dress with a cardigan or a closer fitting tshirt and a skirt, with a cardigan, if you feel the need to dress up a bit, but the dress code is definitely come as you are.

Peachesandcream444 · 14/03/2026 00:30

Almost every person will be in shorts and vest tops or T-shirts. Or a really thin cool dress. It will be so hot and leggings I imagine would be way too hot. Footwear is the most important thing, you will walk a lot so make sure you have comfy shoes, trainers ideally or sandals.

GloiredeDijon · 14/03/2026 02:50

I hear orange is the in colour there.

IcyAzureMoose · 14/03/2026 03:11

I mean I just wore shorts and flip flops most days and was fine. Occasionally trainers. There was the odd downpour but I just waited in a shop until it passed like most people did. I didn’t buy anything new to wear. Yes it’s hot but it’s not that bad.

Duvetdayneeded · 14/03/2026 05:52

What’s with all the sports gear???

BlueLimes · 14/03/2026 06:41

I saw lots of the American mums in sports gear when I went in the summer a few years ago.

I mainly wore shorts and t shirts, next have some which look quite smart, Boden if you can stretch to it. Or t shirt dresses - next and m and s normally have loads.
It’s too hot to use a rain jacket.

RhubarbAndMustard · 14/03/2026 06:46

Shorts, t shirts/ vests and trainers. Shorts are better than skirts/dresses if your planning to go on rides..Tron for instance is like a motorbike. Next do some good basic t-shirts.

PurpleFlower1983 · 14/03/2026 06:57

I wore casual, short summer dresses and shorts/tops last year.

MammaJamma1 · 14/03/2026 07:19

This is fabulous thanks all, I was thinking more sports gear for sweating and drying off but you've steered me right.

You won’t need anything beyond shorts and t shirts and a cardi if you’re eating out at night as the air con is fierce. Never saw anyone dressed up in Florida, it’s very casual. The humidity will be a killer. You will be sweaty.

Some ladies do wear what looks like little golf/sports skirts with a vest top and baseball cap.

Yes had look at these on amazon, or the runinng shorts with the undershorts in them. Just wouldn't be stuff I would wear in the UK so need to get my head round wearing shorts. Comfort needs to be the priority!

The more cotton and natural fabrics the better, anything nylon will make you sweat more.
I always cover my shoulders but I’d say more women wear vest tops.

showyourquality · 14/03/2026 13:30

I wear sports dresses with built in shorts and my most comfortable trainers. Halara have a wide variety, Amazon or most sportswear brands will have them. You want ones where the shorts are easy access for bathroom breaks. It will be hot and very humid with thunderstorms.
You will want to pre buy ponchos and perhaps shoe covers. Cooling towels and water spray fans can help. Extra socks to swap out perhaps.
You wear colors that match characters ( bounding) if you want to do something a little playful and to look more put together.
A small zip up for indoor eating might be helpful.

Nenya · 14/03/2026 18:38

Definitely not leggings, you will melt!

Agree with everyone saying natural fabrics where possible. Take more outfits than you think you need, unless you like the idea of squelching around after you've got soaked on a water ride. For similar reasons I would advocate sandals over trainers, though nothing too flimsy; the walking can be brutal.

My view on smarter clothes for restaurants is slightly different from a couple of other posters. Most places are very casual, yes, but if you're eating anywhere like Disney Springs rather than the fast food joints in the parks, you will see some people who have dressed up a bit more - pretty sundresses and nicer shoes rather than anything very dressy, but just something to keep in mind. Also there are restaurants on Disney property that have a more formal dress code.

Isabelle70 · 14/03/2026 22:17

I went solo last year in August and wore cycle shorts or loose shorts. Not sure of the style name but cotton waffle fabric. With normal T-shirts to protect myself from the sun.

redboxerclub · 15/03/2026 08:55

I know this is a bit of an old thread but OP there are so many pack with me for Florida videos in you tube!! I find them bizarrely incredibly relaxing!! Brogantate ans brummymummy

if you don’t have already get some TEVA sandals. And some comfy worn in trainers. Park days are 20k step plus days. Thin (not denim) shorts and Disney/ universal t shirts is they way to go! Most of the resorts have washing machines so you can pack light. Take some ears and a cross body bag with you. Mini fan /cooling towel/. Or short dresses with cycling shorts underneath and some snag chub rub shorts.

asda and primark have lots of disneybmerch.

I went to universal California and wore denim shorts and a Bart Simpson t shirt from men’s primark and loved it. People will comment on you out fit it’s great fun

I’m soo jealous!
