Henna advice

Hi! My hair is mostly still brown with some grey at the temples. I want to avoid permanent dyes & the hassle of root touch ups etc, and the grey is quite a nice shade. However because the grey is on the layer nearest my scalp it's really obvious if I wear my hair up and makes me look a lot older. I've avoided wearing it up for ages!

I was thinking of trying light brown Henna to hopefully cover the grey and enhance the brown. I used Henna years ago and it looked quite nice. Does anyone have experience of using Henna with some grey? (Not roots.) I'll do a strand test but just wondered what it's likely to look like!

Thanks!

My hair is exactly like this, and I've been using henna on it since I got a bit of grey at the temples, for the same reason - wanted natural dye.

I've been using Khadi hennas, which are pretty easy, and don't look like henna. They do cover the grey, but not like a chemical dye will - the hairs at my temples are still lighter than the rest. It looks lovely though, and very shiny. I was using the Light Brown shade.

I've been keeping it up for a couple of years and have just decided I can't really be arsed anymore. I've grown to like the grey temples, and they're not too bad anyway. I've started using Plantur 39 once a week instead of henna, and I do think it's making my hair look healthier, and more vibrant.

That's really helpful, thank you! So it made the temples a lighter brown? When you say it doesn't look like henna do you mean its not orangey? Sounds perfect.

Yeah exactly, Khadi do lots of shades, and they don't have that classic henna red-orangey look.

My grey hair is a sort of honey blonde / light brown. So you can tell it's different, but the warmth of the henna stops that kind of draining effect that salt and pepper hair can sometimes have. The Plantur 39 seems to be doing a similar thing, but with less effort.

I am happier with the salt and pepper hair now though, a couple of years into it. Just took some getting used to I s'pose. I think it's quite cool.
