Where to take a 17-year-old clothes shopping in central London?

I live in the US and am visiting London in June with DD17. We are staying centrally and I would love some recommendations of where we could go clothes shopping for her. She is pretty mainstream in her tastes, not very brand conscious and I want to buy her a few new things, and have a fun afternoon browsing.

I meant to add quite a few of the embroidery designs are London specific - transport and so on, so great as a memento of the visit.

Thank you everyone for all your great suggestions. I am passing them on to DD and she is going to look at the shop web sites and a map and plan out a route for us. Now I just need to pack some good comfy shoes to keep up with her!

My daughter loves the Covent Garden area: Brandy Melville, Urban Outfitters and some great makeup places such as the Glossier shop (an experience of itself) etc. There are also Vintage shops if that's more her/your bag.

Have a lovely time OP. If you are in Covent Garden maybe pop to watch the free buskers in the piazza. They can be great fun. Right next to the Glossier shop!

Oxford Circus for Oxford street, Regent street and Carnaby street (all very close together). I don’t think anyone mentioned Liberty of London but it’s a fab department store with a very traditional London feel (and is close to Oxford Circus). You’ve got Selfridges at the other end of Oxford Street too. China Town/Soho have some decent restaurants too.

I recommend going to Notting Hill Gate and heading to Portobello Road and Westfield as they are great for shops.

Not West End, but what about Camden Market?

Agree with all the previous suggestions. Also wanted to add Portobello Road if she likes vintage. I hadn't been in years, but went recently and plan on taking DD and DSD at some point. They do both love a good charity shop or vintage rummage, though!

Lots of vintage places in Portobello and also charity shops with better than average labels, including some quite high-end. You might also be able to pick up a nice piece of jewellery if that's your thing.

DD and DSD both also love Soho/Carnaby Street.

You could also look at jewellery from Tatty Devine on Neal Street - they have cute pendants from around £33.

You could try Brick Lane as there a few vintage shops there. Portobello road only on Fridays Saturdays is now cheap rubbish.

I often see tourists with teenagers on Oxford Street, you could visit Selfridges.

That doesn't mean it's the best place to take them.
