Cleansing balm for sensitive skin?

Is anyone using a fragrance-free cleansing balm that they'd really recommend for sensitive skin, please? I love the texture of e.g. Emma Hardie Moringa, but it's so expensive and the smell is a bit overpowering! Ideally I'd avoid essential oils too.

Dermol 500 (recommended by a dermatologist) used as a face wash/balm.

schroeder · 09/03/2026 08:38

I use this
https://www.superdrug.com/skin/face-skin-care/face-balms/b-melting-cleansing-balm/p/805524

Great for removing mascara and soothing for my sensitive dry skin.

They do a mini travel sized one, so you could try it for just a few pounds.

I’d suggest consulting a dermatologist for full allergy testing. I did, it’s saved me thousands in buying the wrong products.

Thanks Tortephant, I had the full standard and cosmetic battery of allergy tests a few years ago so I know what I.was allergic to then, but I'm not convinced it didn't miss a couple of things, or that further sensitivities haven't developed since then. Also, I'm sensitive to nickel and there's a lot of "Well you might also need to avoid this extra list of stuff that's associated with nickel allergies but we don't actually know...and they're in everything btw". Very frustrating!

There's a few recs for The Inkey List oat cleanser, which I've wondered about before - I also like that it's a tube, as a pp said, so I might give that a go.

It's so incredibly subjective though - I don't know why I ever expect a consensus with these sort of questions 🤣 thanks all for your input though!

I've just swopped to the Inkey LIst one, so far so good. My daughter swears by Byoma.

Squirrelsnut · 13/03/2026 11:34

Have you tried cleansing oils? I'm using Simple at the moment. They're lovely and gentle but get the make-up off.

Hephebe · 13/03/2026 22:37

Thanks both - I've just started using the Inkey Lust Oat Cleansing Balm, will report back!

I've used Superfacialist Vit C Cleansing Oil in the past and it's good but it's a bugger for travelling!

I have sensitive skin and use the Boots No 7 cleansing balm for dry skin that comes in the round tub. I follow that with my Dermalogica special cleansing gel.

I'm using a cheap one from beauty bay which is great but no longer available as they've gone bankrupt, but it has camomile in which makes me think I'll try the body shop one in the future. I've found the cheap one much more gentle on my skin than Elemis, which I'd used for years

I'm sorry, what?
Beauty Bay have gone bust??? Since when???
I came on to recommend their oat cleansing balm but now I need to Google WTF is going on...

Clinique take the day off, my skin is very sensitive and this is the only cleanser it likes. Body shop camomile balm is a close second.

Second this!

I use this elf one from Amazon and love it. I have v sensitive skin.

This is excellent, far better than the clinique one I'm currently using.

LovelyDonkey · 14/03/2026 08:05

I have myriad allergies and now seemingly shampoo/shower gel/face wash. Also rosacea.

i love the ELF Holy Hydration balm as it melts instantly and required little scrubbing. Cannot use the heavier Elemis/beauty pie style ones as they require too much removal (plus residue blocks my pores)

i hated the bits in the inkey list oat but love their cream cleaner

ReadingCrimeFiction · 14/03/2026 08:11

I haven't dont this for a long time but I used to use a clarins cleansing milk, but took it off with a warm wash cloth. Very gentle.

Farmacy do a scent free' sensitive version of clean green that might be worth checking out.

KarenPirie · 14/03/2026 08:25

I use Aldi rose cleansing balm - it is a dupe of the Elemis one but I prefer the texture- it is less greasy.

It removes makeup really well and doesn’t irritate my very sensitive skin.

Yes, it's such a shame, I had just discovered them

Hephebe · 14/03/2026 09:12

@PeonyBulb I used to use a beautiful No7 cleansing balm in a tube - sort of balm-gel texture - but I don't think they do it any more. Sort of similar to BeautyPie Japan fusion.

@LovelyDonkey I haven't found any bits yet 🤣

I buy the Clinique, which is brilliant, but recently got a sample of the Elf which is much cheaper and it’s virtually the same, so might switch.

I can’t use anything with fragrance as it stings my eyes.

Tulipvase · 14/03/2026 09:39

I use Liz Earle - the green one. Super something.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/03/2026 09:52

I use Pai oil (Light Work RoseHip) in the shower full size in the bathroom and a small bottle to travel . Remove with a Waschie cleanser pad .

BodyShop Camomile or an M&S one
Didn't like the SuperDrug one I bought a mini tub to travel but it smelled off . Probably wasn't , but it is Fragrance Free ,

Beauty Bay has been saved and will be back @namechange0998776554799000

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 14/03/2026 10:25

Boots also do an oat cleansing balm which is probably similar to the Inkey List one.

Hephebe · 31/03/2026 08:01

Just reporting back - I've used the Inkey List Oat Balm for a week or two now and am really impressed. It leaves my skin very soft and hydrated. I tend to use it every evening, and most mornings, but sometimes just use Cruel gentle foam in the mornings instead, to mix it up a bit. Also sometimes double cleanse in the evenings with LRP micellar water or another gentle cleanser.

After cleansing in the evening I'm either using my LRP retinol, glycolic acid or vit C. Then my usual lightish moisturiser.

It's working really well so thanks all for the recs!

im also kind of reporting back - as a body shop camomile balm girl.

i tried the inky list oat balm one. Oh my lord how does anyone get this squeezed out of the tube??!! Like seriously?! It’s also very ‘hard’ compared to the body shop one. I feel I need to keep it on the radiator to melt up for better use!

just me or anyone else?

Comefromaway · 25/04/2026 21:41

I’ve never thought it is hard
