I am on here to share a few things that WORK, as I have benefitted from the hive mind in this category often, and recently had to glam up for an event and so have re-engaged with solving some pesky beauty issues and finally worked out a few hacks! I was not keen to go for any actual invasive tweakments....so just needed great products. Please also share yours so we can further support the cause of feeling great – with a little help – at 40+

Elf white brightening corrector THIS IS AMAZING - I couldn't find anything to actually hide dark circles under eyes, and don't like a too heavy a look, or anything that creases into fine lines, and got this on Amazon, its really cheap and just actually works!!! You need hardly any, apply with a small brush and diffuse a bit with a softer brush, but you can be really precise and then you can use a more skin tone concealer over the top and its magical. MAGICAL I tell you! and I have tried loads. You can also use it for highlighting/brightening anywhere on the face and it stays put. https://tinyurl.com/bde47kvk

This was expensive (but perhaps not compares to expensive facials etc) but my skin has never felt better and over the winter time it usually gets dry patches, and dull - but this a couple of times a week or more if you have any event has been wonderful - soft skin afterwards, and noticeably brighter and more even toned - Current Body LED mask: https://tinyurl.com/5n8s6sjm

Anyone got any other holy grail saviours? Sorry to get all religious about this - I am an atheist - but I will worship at the shrine of the hive mind that is mumsnet style and beauty threads....

I also love the CurrentBody LED mask, I have the neck/chest one too.

Im only early 30s but look like the living dead due to my 1yo being a terrible sleeper. So here for any tips to make me look less terrifying that will be super quick as I'm permanently rushing. Will definitely look into that elf corrector thanks.

Medik8 Tetra-C Advanced, Medik8 Crystal Retinol, Dr Sebagh Deep Exfoliating Mask, Microneedling. My skin looks better in my 40s than it did in my 20s!

I’m intrigued by the Current Body mask, also devices like Foreo Bear and Ziip Halo but I haven’t bit the bullet yet.

I love the Gatineau under eye colour corrector. A bit pricier but you only need a tiny dot

IAmTheFloorCleaner · 03/03/2026 19:32

I am interested in all of this but I am extremely poor 😭 so here for any budget saviours!

@Marchmallow20
thanks for the thread, great idea!

just looked at that elf product. If my darkness under eyes is blue/purple, would i be better off with the pink one or would you stick to white?

my happy recent buy was from Aldi. They did a limited range of vitamin c face products, they had a brightening serum for face. I put it on every night before moisturiser and every morning my face is incredibly soft and smooth.

has to be the brightening one in a tube, not the serum in the bottle, it’s great

peachandbloodorange · 03/03/2026 19:54

Lush 'ultra bland' cleanser - I reckon a lot of oil-based cleansers would be similar but this one really works on softening my skin and making it gorgeous.

ELF Halo Glow Blush Beauty Wand - tiny touch on the high cheekbones for a proper below-the-skin glow.

Corknut · 03/03/2026 20:55

Dr Sam’s Flawless Cleanser - truly excellent and I’m a advent calendar/ beauty shopaholic

Flooph · 03/03/2026 21:03

Dr Pen microneedling pen and salmon sperm! I used to get the facials but now do it at home and it brightens my skin like nothing else.

Morepositivemum · 03/03/2026 23:35

Cerave eye cream if under your eyes feel sensitive or dry, Aimee Connolly primer (about twenty five euros)to make your make up glide on and hydrate your skin. Le Roche posay moisturising spf. Aldi do a bonded shampoo and conditioner that rivals anything I’ve found, supposedly a dupe for olaplex. Femfresh. Nuff said😉

In answer to question on colour I think the peachy one might be good to counteract the purple but I have only tried the white, my circles are like shadows dark but not purple - but the white seems to hide it then I add colour on top …

I have the doctor pen micro needle pen but have not used it yet as I don't know how, yes have looked on YouTube and such but still didn't really get it. Regarding the current body LED masks a couple of you have said, I have a generic LED mask, no brand but strong light, wont this be the same or is current body LED mask different ? Im 47

Noshadelamp · 04/03/2026 08:44

Are your links affiliate links op?

Marchmallow20 · 04/03/2026 18:12

Hey - i just made the long links into 'tiny url' links as they were massive - is affiliate links when you are paid to promote something? Maybe the shorter links made it look dodge....I am just posting as me, a real person who likes these products - but important to question this as I guess it does happen!

I haven't tried any other LED masks but this one is supposed to be very powerful so I think there must be others that are not hitting the amount of intensity needed to make a difference but sure it varies.....

Another tip I can offer is Gee Hair clip in extensions....glossy length very easy and comfortable to wear and really nice for an occasion....and you can get testers of colours to ensure a match before you buy.
